Teofimo Lopez Denies Talks About A Devin Haney Fight - 'This Is All False'

Devin Haney is reportedly in talks to fight Teofimo Lopez next, something which the latter has denied.

Haney has been looking for a fight since his no-contest with Ryan Garcia in April. Haney initially lost the fight after getting dropped times in a majority division defeat. However, the result was overturned after Garcia failed VADA tests for Ostarine. Garcia was banned for a year as he can only box professionally from April 2025 onwards.

Oscar De La Hoya ruled out an immediate rematch with Haney as he talked up a Garcia fight with Lopez. The Takeover had previously confirmed that he rejected a $1.5 million offer to fight Garcia. De La Hoya denied that such an offer had been made. Lopez and Garcia were also involved in verbals on social media after Teo suggested Ryan ‘sold his soul.’

“I’m talking to Ryan Garcia here. I know you want to fight me when you see me in person. That’s fine. I didn’t mean no bad towards your mother in that essence. If you really look into it, I did say I really do wish your mum nothing but health. Cancer is not something to play with,” Lopez stated

Haney Vs. Lopez

But now it seems that Lopez could face Haney. They were rivals during their time at 135 pounds. Lopez was the unified champion before he lost his titles to George Kambosos Jr. Lopez then moved up to 140 as Haney beat Kambosos to become undisputed at 135. Teofimo, however, would beat Josh Taylor to become the WBO Champion at 140. Haney and Lopez have accused each other of ducking. If they were to face off, there would be questions over the weight class.

Haney has hinted he could move up from 140 in search of another title after suggestions he struggles to make junior welterweight. Meanwhile, Lopez was eying a fight with Terence Crawford. The latter boxes at 154 pounds and is the WBA Champion after beating Israil Madrimov. Crawford has shut down talk of a Lopez fight, meaning a Haney bout could be an alternative at 147. However, they could also box at 140 since Lopez holds the WBO belt, giving Haney a chance to win another title. The Dream vacated his WBC belt at 140 after having previously failed to face his mandatory Sandor Martin.

Lopez Reacts

“According to sources I spoke to with direct knowledge, Haney is negotiating to face Teofimo Lopez in his return bout. The source didn’t share dates or money, but Haney and Lopez would headline a massive card in 2025 if the fight is agreed to. The card would be broadcast on ESPN and promoted by Top Rank,” source

Nevertheless, Teofimo has rejected those reports. The Takeover made it clear that these were simply rumours. But that has not stopped fans from wanting this fight.

“Where did all these rumors come out of? These things came out of hat. I haven’t had no contract sent to me. They said we negotiated. Who said we negotiated? “I’m hearing rumors of me in negotiations with me and Devin Haney. Right now, I’m sorry to say, guys, this is all false accusation [reports] until further notice,” Lopez said
