Teofimo Lopez Calls Out Crawford, Ennis, And Tank Davis

Teofimo Lopez has called out Terence Crawford, Jaron Ennis and Gervonta Davis to secure a big fight.
The WBO Junior Welterweight Champion has not boxed since beating Steve Claggett in his last fight. That was the second defense of his title, which he secured after beating the former Undisputed Junior Welterweight Champion Josh Taylor to get the belt. Lopez has been calling for a fight against Crawford, requiring him to move up two weight classes.
However, Crawford has shut down any chances of that fight as his focus is on trying to get the Canelo Alvarez bout. That fight equally requires Crawford to jump up two weight classes. The Saudis are reportedly keen on making Canelo vs. Crawford, meaning that Lopez may have to turn his attention elsewhere.
Lopez’s Options
Teofimo is also eyeing possible fights against Ennis and Davis. A fight with Ennis would likely take place at 147 pounds, requiring Lopez to jump up a single weight class. Ennis has been struggling to secure the big fights. Prior to his fight against his mandatory Karen Chukhadzhian, talks over a fight with the WBO Welterweight Champion Brian Norman Jr. failed. Mario Barrios, who is the WBC Welterweight Champion, was also linked. That did not materialize into a bout.
Boots also saw talks over a fight with Vergil Ortiz Jr. break down, with suggestions he wanted the fight at 147 rather than 154. Alternatively, Lopez could face Tank Davis. That would likely take place at 140 pounds. Tank moved up to 140 previously when he faced Mario Barrios. Davis is preparing to face Lamont Roach Jr. in a defense of his WBA Lightweight Title. The fight will take place on March 1. Davis recently confirmed that he only has three fights left before he walks away from the sport next year.
Davis has two fights open, with the Roach fight having taken one of those spots. He is likely to rematch Ryan Garcia, which was the most lucrative fight of his career. Reports indicated that it sold over 1.2 million PPVs, earning Davis approximately $50 million. It was the highest-grossing fight of 2023 with a live gate of over $20 million. The problem Lopez may face in that regard is that he is not the biggest commercial name. He did not sell out the Josh Taylor fight when he was fighting in his hometown.
Lopez Reacts
Lopez is also a controversial figure, often dividing the boxing fanbase. But he recently added Canelo’s trainer, Eddy Reynoso, to his team to improve his boxing skills. That may improve his performances, leading to a better brand with the aim of securing a big fight. Takeover is desperate to secure a big name, as he has issued the challenge.
“I need a guy that is going to fight. If you guys say you’re the best, fight the best. Jaron Ennis ‘Boots’, Gervonta Davis, and finish with Terence Crawford,” said Teofimo when asked to name who he wants to fight,” Lopez said
