Tank Davis Slammed For Fighting Roach Jr. – ‘This Is The Tank Protection Program’

Tim Bradley has described Gervonta Davis as a fraud for facing Lamont Roach Jr.
His comments were made after Davis announced that he would be fighting Roach Jr. on December 14. He is coming off a victory against Frank Martin after he knocked him out to retain his WBA Lightweight Title. Davis has been linked with several big names throughout his career in the lightweight division. Devin Haney was the Undisputed Lightweight Champion, as they could have fought. However, Haney vacated his belts and moved up to 140 pounds. Davis could have moved up to that weight class to face him, having previously done so to take on Mario Barrios. However, the failure to do so was heavily criticized.
The same could be said for taking on the WBC Lightweight Champion Shakur Stevenson. Stevenson has consistently called out Davis for a fight. However, Davis’ team has made mixed comments on it. They have previously stated that it makes no sense to fight Shakur since he does not have commercial pulling power. They have backtracked on that, stating that they would want to make the fight when the timing is right.
Davis’ Resume
Davis could also have faced Vasiliy Lomachenko. Reports indicated that Tank was in talks to face the Ukrainian. However, the Ukrainian’s manager Egis Klimas confirmed that his fighter has no motivation for facing Davis. While that may be the case, Tank had been consistently linked with the Lomachenko fight earlier in his career. That was when Lomachenko was at his peak and dominating the division. Yet, Davis decided not to take that fight. There were suggestions that he only wanted to face Loma now, knowing that he was not the same fighter.
Tank has equally been linked with a fight against Teofimo Lopez Jr. Lopez is a former Unified Lightweight Champion. He then suffered a loss to George Kambosos Jr. before deciding to move up 140 pounds. Lopez is the current WBO Junior Welterweight Champion and has stated that he would like to fight Davis. However, there is nothing to indicate that the fight will be made. Since Davis had chosen another fighter who would move up to 135 pounds, just like Hector Garcia and Leo Santa Cruz did, Bradley was not impressed with Tank’s level of opposition.
Bradley Reacts
“Man, this is matchmaking. Listen, Matchmaking can cover up any fighter’s imperfections. I’m just going to let you guys know that. It’s just like the makeup you guys are wearing right now. Both of you guys look pretty, but in reality, you and Bernado [Osuna] are as ugly as hell. I’m going to keep it 100 with y’all.
“Look, this is the Tank protection program. This has been going on for a long time, people. They’ve been bringing guys up from the lower weight classes to get in with Tank, and Tank looks spectacular. It’s a coverup. I’m going to tell you right now. I think Tank is a good fighter. I don’t know how great he is, but from the looks of it and the matches he’s been having, the dude looks like a total fraud,” Bradley said
