Sydney Sweeney Teases A Boxing Fight – Who Would She Face?

Sydney Sweeney has admitted she would have a boxing fight after undergoing a physical transformation for her film ‘Christy,’ which is scheduled for a November 7 release.
Sweeney plays former boxer Christy Martin, who pushed women’s boxing into the mainstream. Martin’s career was also impacted by her abusive husband and trainer, James Martin, who nearly murdered her in 2010. Sweeney took several measures to make the film realistic. She put on around 35 pounds of muscle, as Martin boxed between welterweight and super middleweight. Sweeney also spoke about taking real punches, while putting in the work to perfect her left hook. That experience has opened her mind to the possibility of a boxing bout for charity.

“For about two and a half months, I would weight train in the morning for an hour, box three hours in the middle of the day, and then another hour of weight training at night. I put on 35 pounds and it was hard. I started losing weight once I upped my boxing time and had to find that balance, just continually pounding more and more protein shakes I loved it.
“I worked hardest on that left hook and I think what would get me through a fight is that I can take a punch. I wouldn’t quit. There was a moment in the middle of filming where I was like, ‘Should I give it all up and fight because I love this?’ Christy said she’d sign me up. So, this isn’t as hypothetical as you actually think it is. Yeah, I’d totally do a charity bout, that’d be so sick. It’s a surprise, you’ll have to wait, I’m serious. You gotta stay tuned for the pay-per-view and you’ll see it,” Sweeney stated
Options

The most commercially option is a rivalry with another A-list actress or a celebrity. This follows the influencer boxing model where fame, not fighting skill, drives the pay-per-view numbers. A match against someone like former co-star Zendaya (from Euphoria) or a massive social media figure like Selena Gomez would create a built-in, ready-made narrative. This is the most lucrative path, guaranteeing record viewership regardless of the boxing quality.

A second option involves pitting Sweeney against a retired professional female boxer or MMA fighter to give the bout competitive credibility. Sweeney’s training and admission of taking real punches suggests she wants a legitimate challenge. The ultimate crossover test would be a bout with Claressa Shields, the undisputed champion in three weight divisions. While highly improbable, it would be a big event.

The final likely option outside of Hollywood is securing a matchup with a female MMA personality or influencer. A former UFC fighter Paige VanZant, who has already successfully transitioned to social media and bare-knuckle boxing, is a proven draw who has campaigned in the appropriate weight range and would provide Sweeney with a physically challenging opponent.
