Sterling Will Face Nathaniel Wood Following His O’Malley Fight
This will be Aljamain’s first fight since his loss to Sean O’Malley after the ex-champion was stopped in the second round. The defeat ended his nine-fight-win streak, as O’Malley went on to claim the bantamweight title.
The win disrupted Aljamain’s plans to move up to 145 pounds, as he targeted a rematch with O’Malley to avenge his loss.
Sterling On The Rematch
“I think it should be Aljo. Who’s defended the belt as many times as he has consecutively? I think he has the most consecutive bantamweight defenses of all time. He beat [three] different champions, he was what you consider a dominant champion in his reign…How can you have that and not get a title shot? Not get a rematch? If he doesn’t deserve a rematch, who does,” Sterling
However, that does not appear forthcoming given that O’Malley has also talked about fighting the boxer Gervonta Davis.
“That fight’s gonna happen some day, I swear to f****** God, dude. When I have these feelings, like these true deep feelings, like I’m gonna be world champ, I would tell anybody, look them in the eyes and tell them that ’cause I knew it was gonna happen. I have that same feeling about fighting Gervonta. Like, it’s gonna f****** happen,” O’Malley stated
Therefore, Aljamain will have to decide carefully where he goes next. With that being said, Sterling has moved on to face Wood.
Sterling Vs. Wood
“Aljamain Sterling will be facing Nathaniel Wood in a grappling match on September 30th on Polaris 25. The event takes place in Wales,” Ariel Helwani
The latter has nothing to lose given that he is a massive underdog entering into the fight. But the pressure will be on Sterling to perform as questions emerge over his defensive prowess.
Ultimately, Sterling will have to bounce back with a win. And there is no getting away from that moving forward in the future. You can stay up-to-date with the latest happenings in the world of boxing and MMA by visiting boxingblitz right here.
