Simpson And Woodall Ready For War - 'Know Just How Hungry I Am'

Callum Simpson will box Steed Woodall in a defense of his British & Commonwealth Super-Middleweight Titles, as both men held their final presser.

The fight takes place from the Canon Medical Arena in Sheffield on January 11. Simpson is the favorite, having beaten Zak Chelli in his previous fight. The victory earned him the titles and took his record to 15-0. The win was all the more impressive since he did it in front of his home fans at the Oakwell Stadium in Barnsley. Simpson has plenty of heroes to look up to in his region. Clinton Woods, Johnny Nelson, Kell Brook and Naseem Hamed are just some of the boxers who have come through from Yorkshire. Woodall will also feel confident. He defeated Lerrone Richards in his last fight. That was Richards’ first defeat of his career, giving Woodall a massive scalp.

In the co-main event, Caroline Dubois takes on Jessica Camara. Dubois is the WBC Lightweight Champion. She got that belt after defeating Maira Moneo in her last fight to win the interim belt after which she was upgraded. A win puts her in touching distance of a title shot against Terri Harper, the WBO Lightweight Champion. Camara faces an uphill task. She is 14-3. She only has three KO wins, meaning Dubois will back herself to walk her opponent down. But by being the underdog, there is no added pressure. This is what the fighters had to say in their presser.

Quotes

“I love it to be honest, mate. I love it. It’s tough at the top as they say. Another sold out crowd. Back-to-back headline, sold-out event. Grateful for BOXXER [for] giving me the opportunity, Sky Sports [for] giving [me] a massive opportunity. So yeah, looking forward to Saturday night,” Simpson

“It’s been a long road to get here. The small following that I do have know what I’ve been through to get here and they know just how hungry I am, why I’m here today and why I deserve to be here. The fact that literally everyone has written me off again, I absolutely love it.

“Including yourself [presenter Andy Scott] in the [Natasha Jonas vs. Ivana Habazin broadcast]. Everyone was ripping me to bits, looking past it, talking to [Mark] Jeffers and all that stuff. Actually, it was only Callum [Simpson] that showed me respect during that whole thing and I’m here to show why I deserve to be here,” Woodall said
