Shannon Briggs Targets Historic Klitschko Comeback Fight - 'Let's Go Champ'

Shannon Briggs is eyeing a fight with Wladimir Klitschko amid speculation the latter could make a comeback.

Klitschko is a former unified heavyweight champion who has not boxed since getting stopped by Anthony Joshua. That followed after he suffered an upset defeat to Tyson Fury. The rematch with Fury never happened, as Klitschko retired with losses. However, reports indicated that the 47-year-old could make a comeback. There were suggestions he could have faced Daniel Dubois for his IBF Heavyweight Title. The rationale was that a win made Klitschko the oldest heavyweight champion.

The current record is held by George Foreman, who beat Michael Moorer at 45 to become the IBF Heavyweight Champion. However, the reports of the comeback were also accompanied by suggestions that Klitschko may return for the Fury rematch. Fury suffered a second loss against Oleksandr Usyk, meaning that he missed out on getting an undisputed shot later down the line. A rematch with Klitschko is the only other big bout apart of the Anthony Joshua bout. The Saudis have said they want Klitschko back.

“The result of Tyson and Usyk there is a lot of people waiting for. One of them is Dubois, there is also Joshua and there is third person. I am dreaming to see this fight, to give chance to – if he accepts – [Wladimir] Klitschko to get back and have a chance to be the oldest heavyweight champion ever,” Alalshikh said

Briggs On Klitschko

But Briggs is also looking to make a return if he can get the Klitschko fight. Briggs developed a reputation for chasing Klitschko throughout his career to try and secure the bout. He once threw food and a shoe at Klitschko at the Ukrainian’s restaurant. He also followed him in a speedboat while flying to his presser to get the fight.

The bout never happened. But Briggs faced his brother, Vitali, who beat him in the process. Briggs is now 53. Mike Tyson recently showed that father time catches up with everyone when he boxed Jake Paul at 58. Mike lost a one-sided unanimous decision in a poor performance. But if Briggs could get the Klitschko fight, he was open to it.

“There’s no such thing as impossible. As we know, mankind has done some amazing things, and he’s such a tough man. To [try to] become heavyweight champion and be fighting for your country at war with so many lives being lost. This is a true champion, a true strong man. It’s great for boxing.

“I’d like to fight him, no secret about that. I can’t take anything away from him as a fighter and human being. What a guy. You can take an old car and restore it. You can put in new wheels, spark plugs, and batteries, and that car will run like a brand-new car. It’s true. That’s what I feel for myself. “Anything is possible. You can turn back time. Age is no longer a factor,” Briggs said
