Shakur Stevenson Turned Down Haney’s Insulting Fight Offer – ‘Bruh, Be Realistic’

Shakur Stevenson has revealed that he turned down an offer to fight Devin Haney, as the split was far from up to scratch.
Haney is the current undisputed lightweight champion, which does put the ‘Dream’ as the A-side in any negotiations.
Not only that, but Haney’s resume at lightweight is a lot stronger. Consecutive victories over George Kambosos Jr. and a win over Vasiliy Lomachenko were major names on Haney’s record.
In contrast, Stevenson’s only victory at lightweight was a sixth-round stoppage against Shuichiro Yoshino.
Meanwhile, George Kambosos Jr. backed up Haney’s credentials by naming him as the best fighter in the division.
This was evident when the American completely outclassed the former unified lightweight champion on his own soil.
“Devin Haney has the belts. He’s proven. He’s got everything. Yeah, Tank has beaten some good guys. But he hasn’t beaten the guys that Haney has beaten.
“We’ve seen a rehydration clause on Tank’s biggest win against Ryan Garcia. So those kinds of things stain [a resume] from the outside looking in. Haney is the No. 1 lightweight at this stage until he vacates,” Kambosos Jr.
And yet, Stevenson felt that the offer did not reflect his value as he is two-division champion himself.
Nah I’m not gone take 25% but u knew that already Lil bruh be realistic 😴

That is understandable when addressing the following points about the star. Stevenson is currently a mandatory to Haney’s WBC lightweight title. Therefore, such an offer may not reflect the true value of a mandatory challenger.
In addition, there is an argument that Haney’s low offer may be an attempt to secure a much bigger fight down the line with Gervonta Davis.
The latter is currently in prison for breaking the terms of his house arrest with regards to a hit-and-run incident.
And given that Davis’ last fight was a win over Ryan Garcia, which reportedly sold over $1.2 million pay-per-view buys, a Haney-Davis fight makes more financial sense.
A Haney-Stevenson fight is the one to watch, but whether it happens now is anyone’s guess. Time will tell how this plays out.
