Shakur Stevenson Praises Mayweather After Gotti III Fight – ”Still The Greatest’
Shakur Stevenson praised Floyd Mayweather following his exhibition against John Gotti III.
Mayweather ran things back following their controversial first fight. The bout ended in a brawl once the referee stopped the fight due to foul language. Gotti began swinging at Mayweather, who covered up on the ropes, while the entourage from both sides entered the ring. Gotti was ultimately suspended for six months as he aimed to perform much better.
He had the perfect stage for it, fighting in Mexico. However, it was a lackluster performance from Gotti. His punches were landing short, while Mayweather repeatedly backed him up. The fans booed in the last round, primarily due to Gotti’s failure to put up a fight. While Mayweather may get criticized for taking non-competitive exhibitions, Shakur praised Mayweather as one of the best who reciprocated his thoughts.
Shakur And Mayweather
Shakur: ”Still the greatest I’ve ever seen.”
Mayweather: ”Thanks little TBE”
Shakur: ”We gone get some money together one day fs, But he’s the greatest to ever do it for sure. I appreciate this dude big time, Y’all hate em because y’all envy him. #ChasingGreatness”
Mayweather and Shakur’s next steps have already been outlined. Floyd shut down rumors over a Julio Cesar Chavez fight. The pair met each other in the ring following the fight. They hugged each other after which Mayweather addressed a possible fight. He ruled out the fight because Chavez is now much older.
Mayweather is 47, while Chavez is 62, making it a non-competitive fight. Jake Paul has received criticism for doing the Mike Tyson fight. Paul is 27 while Tyson is 58, raising many safety concerns. While there is no Chavez fight, Mayweather hinted at three more fights.
Mayweather And Shakur’s Future
“Gotti is tough as nails. He’s my guy. But we had to put on a show for the people. And I want to thank Gotti for being a man of his word and we ran it back twice. He’s one of the legends I look up to and he paved the way for me.
But the two getting into the ring to box? He’s older now, and if I do an exhibition with him it’s not going to look good for me. We just got a call about a three-exhibition deal and it’s a crazy number. …So, we don’t know,” Mayweather said
Meanwhile, Shakur has signed a deal with Matchroom Boxing. His first fight was against Joe Cordina on the October 12 card, headlined by Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol, who fought for undisputed at 175. Shakur enters the fight with a unanimous decision win over Artem Harutyunyan in his last fight. Meanwhile, Cordina will move up from 130 after losing his IBF belt with a stoppage loss against Anthony Cacace. If he comes through with a win, Shakur wants the best fights.
“I’ve made it clear that I want the biggest names and the biggest fights in the sport. Bring on William Zepeda at the top of 2025, and I’m ready for anyone who is brave enough to step in the ring with me. There have been few willing to take on that challenge in recent years,” Shakur revealed
