Serhii Bohachuk Vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr. Predictions - 'KO In Under 5'

Serhii Bohachuk makes a defense of his WBC Junior Middleweight Interim Title against Vergil Ortiz Jr. on August 10.

The card will take place from the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas in a 12-round bout on DAZN. Bohachuk enters the fight with a 24-1 record, which includes 23 KOs. The Ukrainian picked up the belt with a unanimous decision win over Brian Mendoza in his last fight. The Ukrainian has witnessed Oleksandr Usyk become the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion with a split decision win against Tyson Fury.

Bohachuk will hope to do the same. Ortiz is undefeated with a 21-0 record. He has a 100 percent KO rate, making him one of the most devastating punchers in the division. The winner becomes mandatory for Sabastian Fundora, who holds the WBC and WBO belts. Here are some predictions from boxing insiders over how the fight plays out.

Predictions

“It’s not too often that we find a world title fight with two genuine knockout artists. Both Ortiz and Bohachuk carry genuine KO power but I like Ortiz for this one. I feel he works at a higher work rate, holds his shape better and there is snap on his punches. I don’t think there will be a KO. I see this going to a points decision in favor of Ortiz by 12-majority decision,” Duke McKenzie

“These two are so evenly matched that the fight will most likely come down to who can take a better punch. I see both getting rocked, maybe even dropped in an incredible shootout! Ortiz Jr TKO 7,” Sergio Mora

“This is a very difficult fight to pick. I’m leaning towards Ortiz, slightly. It’s really a pick ’em fight. Ortiz on points and I’m not saying that with a lot of confidence. This is going to reveal how good Ortiz really is and where he’s at,” Bob Santos

Further Predictions

“Bohachuk is a tough fighter. I had Conor Benn and George Liddard spar him when we were in L.A. earlier in the year. But I think Ortiz is a special fighter and expect Ortiz to win by stoppage halfway through the fight,” Tony Sims

“I just think in this fight Ortiz is going to be too much for Bohachuk, they both faced the right type of guys coming up, but I must give the edge to Ortiz as far as better competition. The concern with Ortiz is he hasn’t had many rounds in the past year, so he needs to be in tip-top shape for this one since Bohachuk isn’t going to go down without a fight,” Jolene Mizzone

“What a fight this is! Bohachuk is an excellent offensive force who excels at mid-to-close range. If he’s allowed to work at that distance, he’s almost certain to obliterate whoever is in front of him. However, I rate Ortiz highly and I think he comes through his toughest test. He’s been very unlucky with his health and inactivity, but he’ll rise to the occasion and break Bohachuk down. Both fighters have tremendous hitting power, but Ortiz is the more well-rounded and polished of the two,” Tom Gray
