Sandy Ryan Unfazed By Mikaela Mayer’s Trash Talk – ‘She Knows What I Can Do’

Sandy Ryan is unfazed by Mikaela Mayer’s war of words ahead of their fight on Saturday.
Ryan lost the first fight via a majority decision, which was her second career loss. The defeat cost her the WBO Welterweight Title, which she had acquired after beating Terri Harper. The Mayer fight was full of controversy due to the build-up. Ryan had paint thrown at her when she left her hotel room on the way to the fight venue at Madison Square Garden in September 2024. Sandy alleged that Mayer’s team may have been involved, something which the latter denied.
Ryan could not deliver her best, as she came out second best. The incident may have had a bearing on her state of mind going into the bout. This time she is leaving nothing to chance. She was not bothered by Mayer’s attempts to get under her skin. Sandy is going through her preparations with the help of Mayer’s ex-coach, Kay Koroma. She will also have her brother Dave, an ex-professional boxer, to get her ready for the biggest bout of her career.
Ryan On Mayer
“It wouldn’t surprise me if there was more from her, but we are prepared this time. I believe she likes to provoke, unsettle opponents. She knows what I can do and fair play all of her pre-fight antics worked last time, but it won’t work again. With that [the paint attack] happening three hours before the fight last year, I believe it did have an effect on me and I fought emotionally, I fought with anger, and it had an effect on how I performed.
“Anything they want to try let them. My manager is taking care of the security so that is all going to be sorted and I have my big brother [Dave] by my side. I’ll have more of my people here this time. “I’m not going to blame who did what. It’s obvious. I will let people decide, let them make up their own minds and have their opinion on it,” Ryan said
Mayer has her own goals to focus on. She is currently in a position to fight Lauren Price for the Undisputed Welterweight Title, meaning she cannot come up short against Ryan. Price has the three other belts, having beaten Natasha Jonas in her previous fight. The win added the WBC and IBF Titles to her Ring Magazine and WBA Belt.
Mayer’s Undisputed Aim
Mayer knows she is likely going to be the B-side even if she has a bigger commercial value. Price has three of the belts and is unbeaten, giving her an edge in the negotiations. Mayer lost a controversial split decision to Jonas in the UK, as she has some doubts over getting a decision there. But if she has to travel to the UK for that fight, she is willing to do so for the right amount of money.
“It makes me a little nervous because I’ve been there before [and not got the decisions], but I’ve got to go in there and make it clear, do my absolute best and sometimes you don’t get it in your backyard, that’s okay, I’m no stranger to that.
“[But] I really do like fighting in the UK, I spent two years fighting there, I’m glad to be back but I built a nice fanbase out there, they always treat me well, they love the sport and women’s boxing. “I’m not opposed to going out there, you’d think because I spent so much time there I wouldn’t be an underdog going to that side, but we’ve seen that before. I’m excited to go back,” Mayer said
