Ryan Garcia’s team revealed that he is targeting a mid-July return to headline his next card.

Garcia is looking to make the first defense of his WBC Welterweight Title, a title he acquired after beating Mario Barrios on June 21. While Garcia’s victory was comprehensive, a post-fight admission regarding his right hand led to widespread speculation about a potential layoff.

Guadalupe Valencia, Garcia’s advisor, officially put those rumors to rest this week, confirming that medical evaluations showed only a “light sprain.” The injury will not require any procedures. That was a massive relief given that Ryan admitted he felt something in his hand, which impacted his performance.

“I was mad at myself in the sixth, seventh and eighth [rounds]. I was like, ‘I should knock this dude out. But then I’m like, my hand is ringing. You can see it, it’s so swollen up right now. It hurts really bad.”“I was happy, but also there that ounce of, ‘Come on, do it. Just take the pain. But what if I really, really badly hurt it. And then I would have been done,” Garcia said

The team has circled the first week of May to begin a full eight-week preparation period, which aligns perfectly with a mid-July fight date. Naturally, the attention will turn towards who he could face next.

“The hand is much better. Luckily, he only has to rest it. He will start full camp at the top of May,” Valencia said

Potential Opponents

  1. Shakur Stevenson: The defensive wizard and multi-division champion. A clash between Garcia’s speed and Shakur’s precision is arguably the biggest fight in boxing for the summer of 2026.
  2. Devin Haney: A long-awaited rematch from their amateur days and their 2024 professional encounter. With both men now holding significant leverage, a “Haney-Garcia II” would be a massive commercial success.
  3. Teofimo Lopez: “The Takeover” has expressed interest in moving up to 147 lbs to challenge Garcia. This matchup would guarantee an explosive buildup and a high-stakes tactical battle.
