Ryan Garcia's Father Slams De La Hoya - 'Go To Church Brother'

Ryan Garcia’s father, Henry Garcia, has hit out at Oscar De La Hoya.

The relationship between team De La Hoya and the Garcias could have been better. Garcia initially alleged his contract had been breached, as he entered a legal battle with Golden Boy. De La Hoya sought to enforce the contract to keep Garcia under his promotional company. Garcia then slammed Bernard Hopkins and De La Hoya at his pre-fight presser with Oscar Duarte.

He questioned Hopkins’ comments that he may not fight again if he lost to Duarte. Garcia also bashed De La Hoya, who suggested Hopkins’ comments were taken out of context. That has left huge question marks over where Garcia’s future lies. And now Henry Garcia has added fuel to the fire with suggestions that things are still not all that well. He accused De La Hoya of taking all the credit for the Gervonta Davis fight, which earned Garcia his highest purse of $30 million.

Garcia On De La Hoya

“He needs to go to church, brother. That’s the only solution I know…Like c’mon brother. We made the fight happen. Not just De La Hoya. We all did. Al Haymon. You had DAZN involved, you had Showtime involved, you had Golden Boy involved, then you had the teams, Tank’s team involved, with [Leonard] Ellerbe, Ryan Garcia and his team, with Lupe Valencia. You had all these people involved. So, don’t say it’s Oscar, please don’t say that. OK? I know some stuff that will clear everything right away,” Henry Garcia said

Following Garcia’s win over Duarte, there appears to be an emphasis on making the biggest fights. Garcia’s bout with Davis sold over 1.2 million PPVs, showing Garcia’s commercial power. His Instagram following is over 10 million, showing he can bring in the casual fanbase. That will likely earn him another big payday if the Haney fight can be agreed. Their amateur record is 3-3, making a potential fight decisive. With Garcia already reaching out, it seems he is taking the lead rather than De La Hoya.

De La Hoya’s Influence

“If it wasn’t for Al Haymon and Lupe, there wouldn’t have been a fight. And you can quote me on that. I don’t care if you have listened and I’mma tell you why because Al Haymon, not once did he talk to Oscar De La Hoya. They had something going on way back in the past and they don’t see eye to eye. So when you don’t see eye to eye with somebody, you go through the outside doors,” Garcia stated

The disagreements with Golden Boy are unlikely to be resolved. Following the expiry of their deal, it is very likely that Garcia will become a free agent. The boxer has the star power to make it happen, but he must continue to win in the meantime. ‘Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingnews.com
