Ryan Garcia Says He Will Sue The NYSAC After They Requested A Mental Health Valuation

Ryan Garcia has said he will sue the New York State Athletic Commission after they requested a mental health evaluation for the boxer.

Garcia’s upcoming fight with Devin Haney on April 20 has been clouded by claims that he is not mentally healthy. He first caused concerns when he said he was ‘high as f**k’ during a Live Space interaction with a fan. Then, the boxer’s social media was deactivated shortly before he requested peace in the Israel-Palestine war.

Before this, the boxer posted on numerous topics, including human trafficking and his desire to run for US President. This raised concerns that Garcia may not be well enough to make the fight. Garcia’s ex-wife, Andrea Célina, stated that she wanted prayers for the boxer. But Garcia’s father, Henry Garcia, said his son was fine. However, it appears that the boxing authorities were closely monitoring Garcia. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed they were in talks with the New York State Athletic Commission.

WBC On Garcia

“Yes, absolutely. We’re in direct talks with the New York Commission where the fight is to take place. With the postings by Ryan Garcia, of course, there has come a lot of concern in a diverse array of topics. But I have spoken to him. He’s a very nice kid. He has a full training camp going on, and I believe he will be in a position to fight but we are addressing the situation without a doubt,” Sulaiman stated

Now, Garcia has vowed to take action after suggestions he is not stable. The following video shows Garcia saying the New York State Athletic Commission wants him to undergo a mental health assessment.

Garcia Reacts

“Anyways, I’m going to sue the NYC commission. And I’m saying this why they’re trying to challenge me for a mental evaluation. I said, Okay, what is your premise for the mental evaluation? Well, your tweets and your posts, I said, is it not my US constitutional right to have free speech?

“So because I’m tweeting what I’m tweeting, that’s the premise for a mental evaluation. And that’s curious. So now you’re trying to mess with my constitutional rights. Now, I’m going to sue you. I’m going to sue you for defamation of character actually, I’m actually going to sue you now.

“And on top of it, like I was saying before, they don’t they won’t to test Mike Tyson….but they will test me. Hmm, sounds a little fishy to me. And I love Mike, Mike loves me. But at the end of the day, I cannot wait for them to actually take me to court, because I will literally defeat them,” Garcia stated

If Garcia fails to get sanctioned for the fight, it will raise question marks over the sport. Mike Tyson is known for using cannabis. The Texas Athletic Commission has banned marijuana usage. Any athlete who has more than 50 ng/ml of THC in their system will be punished. If Tyson is declared fight to fight, Garcia will no doubt want the same.
