Ryan Garcia Outlines His Three-Man Hitlist
In the latest boxing news, Ryan Garcia has opened up on the next steps moving forward after the boxer faces Oscar Duarte on December 2nd, 2023.
‘King Ryan’ has his eyes set on winning a world title following his decision to work with Derrick James in the aftermath of his loss to Gervonta Davis.
The latter stopped Garcia in the seventh round with a brutal body shot to win the biggest bout of 2023. That resulted in Garcia changing his training set up in order to tackle what was perceived to be weaknesses in his defensive skills.
Standing in his way is Duarte, a Mexican fighter who is on an 11-fight stoppage streak, which is why Garcia will have to be at the top of his game.
But provided that the boxer gets past the fighter, Garcia has three names line up in the form of Gervonta Davis, Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney.
Garcia On His Next Opponent
“I’m interested in all of them. Obviously, you always want to run it back when you take a loss. I feel like under different circumstances, I could beat him, but also, Devin Haney, we have a long history in the amateurs. He obviously has a pretty big fan base, too, and Teofimo can talk his a** off and his dad, too.
“So that would be crazy. I think Teofimo interests me a lot because I think that whole lead-up would be crazy due to his pops. Everybody knows the obvious [weight-drained issue] that I’m talking about. Can you do an interview dehydrated? Imagine boxing. So, for me, just level playing field. If you beat me, you beat me. It is what it is. I took that fight because, again, I was trying to change the system of boxing,” Garcia
Outside of that, Garcia has had a few choice words to say about the future of the sport. The boxer’s comments were in response to Showtime’s decision to move away from boxing at the end of the year.
That has left a huge gap in the sport, given that PBC will have to find a new network working forward. And given that boxing is facing a huge challenge from MMA, there had to be some changes moving forward.
Garcia On The Future Of Boxing
“I think there is a new way to do it. I think we as boxers need to come together and collectively come to a solution on how to keep boxing thriving because it is a great sport…Me and Terence Crawford have had conversations and we’re going to be talking more about some plans, and just try to re-innovate what’s going on. I feel like I have the mind to do it. I mean, you’ve never seen a real boxer make $30M, never won a title. How did I do it? I’m here to show the new blueprint. So this is what we’re going to do,” Garcia
