Ryan Garcia Mocks Sean O’Malley After The UFC Fighter Wanted To Box Him

Ryan Garcia has dismissed the prospect of a fight with Sean O’Malley after the UFC Bantamweight Champion suggested it was possible.

O’Malley is preparing to defend his title against Marlon Vera at UFC 299 in March. The fight is significant since Vera is the only person to have given O’Malley a loss, making it the perfect chance to avenge the defeat. After O’Malley stopped Aljamain Sterling to secure the belt, the champion called out Gervonta Davis for a boxing match. Davis’ trainer dismissed the idea, but O’Malley continued to target the big names, saying Garcia was the most likely.

O’Malley On Garcia

“I feel like I’m going to box someday, I know that. Those guys [Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis] aren’t pay-per-view guys, they don’t really sell. They said that Ryan Garcia is like, if any of them were to be a fight, he would be the one that had the most potential for me, as far as just a big pay-per-view. The UFC said ‘If it makes us money, we’ll do it,” O’Malley said

There is no shortage of MMA fighters crossing into the boxing world. Conor McGregor became the pioneer when he faced Floyd Mayweather Jr. Since then, Nate Diaz has faced off against Jake Paul, while Francis Ngannou took on Tyson Fury and has secured a fight with Anthony Joshua on March 8. But any chances of Garcia fighting O’Malley have been dismissed.

“Sean O’Malley couldn’t hold my gym bag. Let alone be able to box with me,” Garcia stated

McGregor’s Future

Meanwhile, Conor McGregor has hit out at the UFC over his return, as it looks no closer to becoming a reality. McGregor has not fought in the UFC since his defeat to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021. He did announce his return on New Year’s Day, saying he would face Michael Chandler at 185 pounds on June 29.

“Ladies and gentlemen, a Happy New Year to you all. I’d like to announce the return date for myself, the ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor, the greatest comeback of all time will take place in Las Vegas for International Fight Week, June the 29th… and the opponent, Michael Chandler. And the weight, Mr. Chandler, 185 pounds,” McGregor stated

Dana White dismissed that, stating the UFC would announce McGregor’s return once it was official.

“Uuuuh, no When Conor is ready to fight, you know we’ll announce it. That’s what we’ll do,” White said

McGregor has teased a possible return at UFC 300 since then, but there has been nothing to indicate that at all. Now, McGregor has become frustrated at his lack of activity.

“Get this f***ing date set,” McGregor stated

O’Malley is seen as the new McGregor, given his recent rise to stardom. While McGregor is the bigger name, he cannot live off his past accomplishments forever.
