Ryan Garcia Charged With Misdemeanor Vandalism – ‘No Way I’m Going To Jail’
Ryan Garcia has been hit with a charge of misdemeanor vandalism following his arrest at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in Beverly Hills.
According to reports, hotel staff alleged that Garcia was under the influence of substances. It is believed that his supply of alcohol was stopped while he was staying at the hotel. Garcia was alleged to have damaged the hotel property, totalling $15,000.
Garcia’s Arrest
“On June 8, 2024, at approximately 5:15 P.M., the Beverly Hills Police Department responded to 9850 Wilshire Blvd. (Waldorf Astoria) for an ‘intoxicated person’ call for service. During the investigation, the intoxicated person was identified as Ryan Garcia. Upon obtaining statements from the hotel management, it was determined that Mr. Garcia was a registered guest of the hotel and had caused damage to a guest room and the hallway of the hotel.
“Hotel management requested the arrest of Mr. Garcia for property damage. Ryan Garcia, a 25-year-old from Porter Ranch, California, was arrested for PC 594(b)(1) – Felony vandalism and transported by the Beverly Hills Fire Department to a local hospital for medical care,” Beverly Hills Police Department said
The charges against Garcia are for a misdemeanor of “vandalism $400 or more in damage or destruction of property.” It “is further alleged that the amount of defacement, damage and destruction was $400 or more.” Should Garcia be convicted, he could face jail for up to one year. This is in addition to any fines that may emerge. Garcia’s next appearance will be a court hearing on August 7.
“While we are grateful no injuries were reported in this incident, reckless behavior that damages property shows a blatant and unacceptable disregard for the safety and peace of our community. Our office will work to ensure the responsible individual is held accountable,” Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon
Garcia’s Struggles
Garcia’s career is on the line following a difficult recent months. He secured the biggest win of his career by beating Devin Haney via a majority decision. He dropped Haney three times to shock the world. However, things took a turn for the worse as the result was overturned. Garcia tested positive for Ostarine following two failed VADA tests. Despite him continuing to claim he was innocent, he received a one-year ban due to strict liability.
Garcia has struggled to come to terms with that. The boxer’s behavior became more erratic as the WBC banned him for his erratic posts on X. The boxer made a series of controversial posts, which included racial slurs and derogatory remarks. His comments were directed at those in the Muslim, Christian and African American community.
PRIME is also suing Garcia for alleged defamatory remarks, while Caleb Plant’s wife is also suing him for his disparaging comments online. Garcia’s ban ends in April 2025, allowing him to compete. He was linked to an exhibition in Japan during his ban. But if he wants to return to big-time boxing, Garcia must keep his behaviour in line outside the ring. He has stated he will enter rehab, but this latest step is a setback. Ryan has responded to the news, saying he wants to avoid jail time.
