Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano will settle their rivalry on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, in a Netflix MMA fight at 145 lbs with five rounds under 4-ounce gloves.

This will be the first time that Netflix airs an MMA fight, with Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions being the promoters. Both women are returning from significant hiatuses to settle their rivalry. Rousey is a UFC champion and Hall of Famer making her first MMA appearance since 2016. She left the UFC after losing her bantamweight belt to Holly Holm and then her next fight to Amanda Nunes. Rousey would later fight in WWE before leaving in 2023.

Carano ends her 17-year retirement, having not had a fight since her 2009 Strikeforce title clash with Cris Cyborg. Carano would suffer a first-round defeat. Since then, she has spent the years as a Hollywood actress, starring in blockbusters like Deadpool and the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.

Reaction

“Been waiting so long to announce this: Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest super fight in women’s combat sport history. And we’re partnering with the fighter-first promotion MVP as well as the biggest and baddest streamer on the planet Netflix. This is for all MMA fans past, present and future. More to come… much more,” Rousey

“Ronda came to me and said there is only one person she would make a comeback for and it has been her dream to make this fight happen between us. She thanked me for opening up doors for her in her career and was respectful in asking for this fight to happen. This is an honor. I believe I will walk out of this fight with the win and I anticipate it will not come easy, which I welcome. This is as much for Ronda and me as it is for the fans and mixed martial arts community. What a time to be alive,” Carano
