Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano held their pre-fight presser ahead of their May 16 clash.

Rousey’s fighting career halted in December 2016 following a first-round loss to Amanda Nunes, which came a year after her upset defeat to Holly Holm. Between MMA stints, Rousey, now 39, captured multiple titles in the WWE before departing the company in late 2023.

Carano is ending a 17-year layoff. Carano hasn’t competed since 2009, when she suffered her only career defeat against Cris Cyborg in the first major women’s headliner in Strikeforce history. Here were the key quotes from the presser.

Presser

“If anyone’s been an apprentice in how to be a promoter, it’s been me. I let Dana know before anybody else that I’d gone to Netflix and I didn’t want him to be upset with me. He said ‘I could never be upset with you, I want you to do great, I want you to be successful’. He’s been my friend first before anything else and I think that most of my criticisms of the UFC now is because Dana isn’t running things the way he wants because he’s an employee of the company now, not the owner.” She adds: “Dana White knows the White House card sucks. I can guarantee you he’s not happy with it either,” Rousey

“Obviously the motivation is Ronda asked me. She’s quite the charmer. Other jobs came up like this but nothing is as important as this. To share the moment with her, we get to live once and this makes me feel so alive and super grateful for the opportunity. I first got confronted by it with Dana White in 2024, about a year we’ve been talking about it. Dana gave me a call and said Ronda wants to fight – the only one she wants to fight is you,” Gina
