Ronda Rousey Apologizes For Posting A Controversial Sandy Hook Video
Ronda Rousey has apologized over posting a video which questioned the official narrative of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
The shooting took the lives of 26 people, which consisted of 20 adults and six children. It raised question marks over the gun control debate in the US. However, Rousey shared a video which questioned the official narrative of the events. Ronda shared the video when the incident was very fresh in the memory.
She received backlash over it since people were in mourning. Reporter Alex Jones was also ordered to pay close to $1 billion to the families who suffered in the event after he was sued for defamation. Jones disputed the narrative, resulting in the families becoming distressed. Now, Rousey has issued an apology, which she said was a long time coming.
Rousey Apologizes
“I can’t say how many times I’ve redrafted this apology over the last 11 years. How many times I’ve convinced myself it wasn’t the right time or that I’d be causing even more damage by giving it. But eleven years ago I made the single most regrettable decision of my life. I watched a Sandy Hook conspiracy video and reposted it to Twitter. [And] I didn’t even believe it, but was so horrified at the truth that I was grasping for an alternative fiction to cling to instead. I quickly realized my mistake and took it down, but the damage as done,” Rousey said
Rousey has also been criticized for her attitude towards how her UFC career ended. The former UFC Bantamweight Champion made history by being the first woman to fight in the UFC. She defended her title six times and set a record for it. Valentina Shevchenko eclipsed the record. Rousey ended her career with two defeats.
She was knocked out by Holly Holm, followed by a stoppage loss to Amanda Nunes. That was enough for Rousey to leave the sport before leaving the organization. She would end up signing with the WWE. It never happened while she was linked with a return at UFC 300. Rousey would later blame her history of concussions for the reason why she suffered defeats.
Rousey On The UFC
“It’s hard to look at footage of that match [Holm fight]. Because I can literally see in my eyes I’m suffering from a neurological injury decades in the making. It [ticks] me off when people see that and say, ‘this is Ronda being outclassed’. That’s me with my brain not properly working,” Rousey revealed
However, Brendan Schaub blamed Rousey for not giving her opponents credit.
“The issue we have with the interview is that we haven’t heard from her in like a long time. She is cleary still hurt by the way her career has ended. But to not be able to have any reflection and not give credit to Holly or Nunes is the issue and I just think it is weird because I am sure she has PR person,” stated
