Pros React To Lerone Murphy's Win Over Josh Emmett

Lerone Murphy overcame Josh Emmett at UFC Vegas 105 to retain his undefeated record, as MMA insiders gave their reaction.

Murphy came into the fight with wins over Edson Barboza and Dan Ige, while Emmet had not been in a fight for over a year with an injury. The first round resulted in a clash of heads, resulting in a cut on Emmet. Murphy followed that up with an elbow strike, resulting in more blood pouring out as he tried to secure the finish.

Murphy did well in the second, shutting down any takedown attempts. He also landed some calf kicks to push Emmett back. However, Emmet had a strong third round, although Murphy did well to deal with the takedown attempts. Murphy increased the pace in round four, landing a massive elbow strike and leg kicks to the body. Emmet showed a late rally, landing some combinations. But it was not enough to get a win on the cards: 48-47, 48-47 and 49-46.

“Listen, it’s all right. 16-0, what? Easy work. I just have to fight my game. He’s got one punch knockout power. I couldn’t make any mistakes. Intelligent performance. I was sound defensively. I dropped him with a left hand. It was a quality performance. Obviously, I want a title but give me anybody in the top 5 or the top 3. I want to keep this train going. I want to stay active. Another two fights this year,” Murphy said

“Clinic! Real MMA fans will appreciate the technicality of that fight. That’s fight IQ. Punishing elbows in close, body kicks, neat footwork. Had him hurt a few times. Why would I stay in the pocket with a power puncher. Float like a butterfly sting like a bee baby,” Murphy added
