Prograis Warned About Catterall’s Skills – ‘This Is Kryptonite’
Regis Prograis has been warned that he faces a tough task ahead of him as he faces Jack Catterall this weekend.
Prograis suffered the second loss of his career as he came out second-best to Devin Haney in his last fight in December 2023. He was dominated in a one-sided bout, losing every round on his way to a unanimous decision loss. Prograis also suffered a knockdown in the fight as Haney landed a big right hand. Since then, Prograis has proposed several reasons why he was not his best. He indicated that there was a rehydration clause in the fight. He also said that Haney is a weight bully after suggestions that he rehydrated to around 160 pounds. Now, he can right that wrong when he faces Catterall.
However, Catterall is in the form of his life. He secured the biggest win of his career by beating the former Undisputed Junior Welterweight Champion Josh Taylor in his last fight. It was a perfect response to their first fight, which ended in a controversial split decision win for Taylor. Most of the boxing community felt that Catterall had been robbed of becoming the Undisputed Junior Welterweight Champion.
Bradley Reacts
A large part of Catterall and Haney’s success has been due to their boxing ability. Haney showed this as he dominated Prograis by using his defensive skills and footwork to remain out of range, picking off Prograis at will. Catterall also showed his superior boxing skills against Taylor. He managed to keep him at arm’s length despite Taylor’s desire to close the gap and take the fight to him. Tim Bradley felt that would be the undoing for Prograis.
“Catterall is not only technically good, but he’s also tactically good. He’s extremely tricky, and I feel he’s facing his kryptonite. He knows how to land that backhand against a southpaw himself. As far as this fight with Catterall goes. This is kryptonite. I think the last couple of fights he’d had, especially the Haney fight, who’s a superior boxer, good legs and can move. Catterall has great legs and is great technically, as well,” Bradley said
Regis’ Mindset
Nevertheless, Prograis must not be overlooked. He is a two-time junior welterweight champion. He is also a serious knockout artist, with a 29-2 record, which includes 24 KOs. Regis lost a narrow majority decision to Josh Taylor before bouncing back to win the vacant WBC Junior Welterweight Title by knocking out Jose Zepeda. Prograis has said the Haney fight was a one-off. He was ready to get a statement win.
“Let people talk, I won’t let nobody tell me who I am, I’m gonna show you who I am. As long as I’m Regis, the person who got to the top twice already, as long as that person shows up, I’m fine and I feel like that person hasn’t been around for awhile. I feel l am getting back to my groove being me and what got me to the top in the first place. If that Regis shows up, it won’t be a hard night,” Regis said
