Prograis Begins Training For Haney, Targets Huge Fights With Garcia And Lopez

In today’s boxing news latest headlines, Regis Prograis has already begun his training camp for a potential fight with Devin Haney on December 9th, 2023.
Haney had moved up to 140 pounds in order to take on Prograis for his WBC belt after reports confirmed a fight date.
Although that may have been the case, Prograis did admit that his side of the agreement was signed. But Haney had not done so.
And yet, there is still an expectation that the fight will go ahead. This is even if an announcement has not been made. As such, the 140-pound champion has begun his training.
Prograis On Haney
Prograis, however, will have to perform a whole lot better if he is to overcome Haney. In his last fight against Danielito Zorrilla, Prograis struggled to dominate his opponent as he walked out with a split-decision win.
What made the performance more scrutinized was the fact that Prograis was fighting in front of his home fans. Therefore, there was an expectation to do better even if he had that extra pressure.
And this will be crucial since Haney is in the form of his life. Despite many believing that he had lost his last fight against Vasiliy Lomachenko, the Dream was given a unanimous-decision win.
As such, he remained the undisputed lightweight champion, with his record intact. But even with the fight still yet to be announced, Prograis was putting in the work.
“I’ve been working ever since they said his name, and I feel like I’m going to stop him. I feel like I’m going to hurt him. I feel like his punch resistance is not there. He’s a good boxer, but he had a lot of close calls. I feel like Loma beat him. Loma stepped it up on him and hit him with the cleaner. I feel like Loma landed the bigger, harder punches, and I feel like he did enough to win, but Devin got it; Devin is the undisputed, and now it’s me. I’m not Loma, I’m not nobody that he ever fought, and I think I’m going to hurt him,” Prograis said
Prograis’ Preparation
Nevertheless, until the fight is actually signed and announced, Prograis will have to be wary that Haney could pull out. The latter is in a position to call the shots, given that he is the bigger name in the fight.
But one thing Prograis has shown is that he is leaving no stone unturned, which is why he is ready for whatever does come his way. After all, he is a two-time champion whose only loss came at the hands of the former undisputed champion at 140, Josh Taylor.
“They’re saying December 9th, so I’ve been locked in ever since. It’s supposed to be in San Franciso, yep. I’m a two-time world champion, and I still don’t get the recognition that I deserve. I think this fight is going to put me on the map where I belong. Usually, when you become a two-time champion, you get the recognition, but my road has never been easy. It’s always been bumpy, but I feel like this fight is going to really put me on the map,” Prograis
Prograis’ Future
And provided that Prograis comes out victorious, he has also targeted mega fights later down the line. A possible unification fight with Teofimo Lopez could prevent itself after the latter beat Josh Taylor to secure the WBO junior welterweight belt.
And since both Lopez and Prograis only have one loss on their record, that fight could present itself. Lopez has admitted that he is interested in bouts that could generate nine-figure sums.
Although this fight may not do so on first inspection, there is plenty in the build up that could hype up the interest. Meanwhile, a super fight with Ryan Garcia could also occur.
The former is a cash cow, having sold over 1.2 million pay-per-views for his fight with Gervonta Davis. And since that bout earned him a reported $30 million, Prograis was also targeting a lucrative fight. And moving forward, Prograis’ plan was clear.
“I really feel I could be the face of boxing or close to it in two fights. This fight and then some after that, hopefully, Ryan or Teo, somebody like that. This is right there for me to grab. I just have to put in the work, which I’ve been doing since, and I think it’s there. It’s there for the taking. Listen, I love it. I’m thankful to thank you, Zorrilla. I’m thankful to Zorrilla. I had a bad performance with nerves and all that being in my hometown. Cool, but that’s over now. I feel like it’s just going to be a totally different thing right now. “Right now, totally different with different plans. He [Haney] can do whatever he wants. I feel like he’s not going to be able to stop. What I’m coming to do to him, he’s not going to be able to stop,” Prograis stated
