Poirier Taunts Chandler For Reliving Hooker Victory
Dustin Poirier has mocked Michael Chandler for reminiscing over his win over Dan Hooker.
Chandler has had five UFC fights, with only two of them being wins. He secured his first win at UFC 257 when he defeated Hooker. His only other win was against Tony Ferguson at UFC 274. However, Ferguson is currently on an eight-fight losing streak, meaning the win has not received a lot of recognition compared to if it had happened if Ferguson was at his peak.
Chandler’s last appearance in the Octagon was at UFC 281 when he lost to Poirier in 2022. He agreed to fight Conor McGregor in a UFC 303 fight. However, the Irishman withdrew after breaking his toe. The fight is still expected, but there is no certainty over the date. Chandler was offered an Islam Makhachev fight, which would have been for the UFC Lightweight Title.
The fight never got made, as Chandler was left to ponder over his last win. Chandler posted the video below, showing him dominating Hooker. Poirier fired back at him as he reminded Chandler of his wins. Chandler has beaten bigger names: Hooker, Justin Gaethje, Benoit Saint-Denis and Max Holloway. The pair have now fired verbal shots at each other.
Chandler Reacts
Chandler: “KO of the No. 5 ranked guy who had just went 25 minutes with the No. 2 ranked guy in a Fight of the Night …but I ain’t done nothing.”
Poirier: “Shut up. I got wins over the No. 3, No. 5, No. 6, No. 9 and No. 12 lightweights.”
Chandler: “Didn’t even mention him. Just stated an observation. Dude has legit hate for the boy.”
Poirier Reacts
This could set up the narrative for a fight. Chandler and Poirier have not been on good terms since Michael suggested Poirier should retire. This was after Poirier came up short when he faced Islam Makhachev at UFC 302.
Poirier suffered a fifth-round submission loss, meaning he missed out on the lightweight title. Poirier said in his post-fight comments that he would consider if he should continue fighting if he could not win belts. The Diamond said he would decide on his future this month. But Chandler urged Poirier to retire, resulting in Dusting firing back.
“Come on dude, no thank, retire we good. Who the [hell] is ‘we?! You just go here, buddy. You’re not one of us. You’re not ‘we.’ I’ve been here. ‘We’re good.’ Who’s we? Welcome to the UFC, dude. You’ve got one win in the UFC… Yeah, bro. He’s not one of us. I’ve been cutting my teeth in the UFC since January of 2011 or 2010. He just got here. Who is we? He’s speaking for the lightweight division? Muscle Milk Mike needs to chill,” Poirier stated
