In some MMA news, Alex Pereira called out Israel Adesanya following his win over Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295 to become a two-division champion.

Pereira dominated the fight after setting up his opponent with leg kicks in the early parts of the fight. Thereafter, the champion dropped Prochazka with a left hook during an exchange.

As Prochazka fell to the floor, Pereira followed up with more punches and elbows that hit Prochazka’s head. As he did so, the latter fell backwards to the floor.

A sustained attack followed, which was enough for the referee to stop the fight in the second round. In the aftermath of the fight, Pereira mentioned Adesanya’s name, indicating his desire for a trilogy.

Pereira On Adesanya

“I’m not the type of guy to call people out but there’s a guy that back in the day [who] did some interviews and said I was a guy who was just going to stay in the bar,” Pereira said. “That motivated me. He rescued me from a bar to be here today. This guy said he just wants to come back and fight in 2027. I think he’s a very talented guy. It’s a waste of talent so I want to rescue him too, to come here and fight. I know that I’m not going to do what he did to me to and make me fight three times to fight him at middleweight. I know it’s a guy we have a lot of history. I want to make this fight happen. Adesanya, come to daddy,” Pereira said

The pair’s record stands at 1-1 in the UFC after Adesanya knocked out Pereira in the second round during their latest meeting. While a trilogy may be on the cards, Adesanya did recently state that he was taking a break from the sport following his loss to Sean Strickland. The defeat resulted in Adesanya losing his middleweight title immediately in the aftermath in what was the first defense of his title.

“Now I’m going to take time to look after myself, and I’m not going to fight for a long time. I’m definitely not going to retire because I know me — I’m not leaving like that. I know me. But if I did, I’m fine. I don’t need to prove anything else. But I know what I can do and what I can change in my lifestyle to make my body adapt to where I need to be. I’m going to heal myself up. You won’t see me fight for a long time,” Adesanya stated

Adesanya Reacts

With that being said, Izzy’s response to Pereira suggests that the fighter has not changed his mind.

“The fact that it sits with him. It hurts his spirit, I like it. But he did it. Same arena, getting that belt again, yeah. I think Jamahal Hill is probably next for him, but I know for a fact it hurts his spirit, which I like. What did he say? Come to daddy? Last time I checked, you were f*cking slept,” Adesanya said

Nevertheless, there would be a few issues that need resolving. Adesanya would most likely have to be move up in weight, given that he does not hold a belt at middleweight, as Pereira does have one now.

So either way, there is a narrative in place to make a fight happen. Time will tell how it all plays out moving forward. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
