Paro Predicts Hitchins Will Quit – ‘Once A Quitter, Always A Quitter’
Liam Paro will aim to break down Richardson Hitchins, as he feels his opponent could quit.
Paro makes the first defense of his IBF Junior Welterweight Title on December 7. He secured the belt after beating Subriel Matias in an upset win. A rematch clause was not in place, showing the magnitude of the win as Paro defied all the odds. Before the Paro fight, all of Subriel’s wins were achieved by knockout. Paro was in talks to face Devin Haney. But the Australian claimed Haney priced himself out as the focus turned to Hitchins. As for Hitches, he struggled in his last fight against Gustavo Lemos.
Despite beating him via a unanimous decision, some in the boxing community felt Lemos should have gotten the win. This is despite Richardson outlanding Lemos by 172 punches compared to the latter’s 161. Lemos would get stopped by Keyshawn Davis in his very next fight, showing how much Hitchins struggled. Paro looked at the performance with full of confidence. He felt that showed Hitchins can quit in fights. That is something he hopes to exploit.
Paro Reacts
“I know I’m really about that, I don’t have to try to tell people I’m about it. People know what I’m about. We’ve heard numerous times from numerous people that he’s a quitter and I believe once a quitter, always a quitter so I’m definitely going to test that and see if he’s about it,” Paro said
There is plenty of pressure on Paro, given the big fights for him if he gets past Hitchins. The former Unified Lightweight Champion George Kambosos Jr. has targeted a fight with Paro following his decision to Matchroom Boxing. That means that Kambosos and Paro are now under the same promotional banner. The two Australian boxers can potentially sell out a big arena next year.
Hitchins’ Mindset
Kambosos will move to 140 as he aims to bounce back from his defeat against Vasiliy Lomachenko. And a big domestic clash with Paro would earn the two fighters their biggest paydays. But Hitchins has a different view on his last performance. He said it showed how tough he was as he could grind out a win. He felt that could prove critical when he faces Paro.
“I feel like my last fight with Gustavo Lemos, be (brought) something out of me and showed the world something I knew withing myself but (brought) it out, he (brought) it to the next level because I was hurt in that fight. After the fight I pissed blood that fight. I had to go to the next level that fight, that was a tough fight. Me knowing I can go through that, it just shows that you’re going to have to kill me to stop me,” Hitchins stated
