Paro And Hitchins Make Weight – ‘It Is Crunch Time, The Talking Is Done’

Liam Paro and Richardson Hitchins made the junior welterweight limit.
Paro defends his IBF Junior Welterweight Title for the first time. He secured the belt with an upset victory against Subriel Matias. Their bout never had a rematch clause, allowing Paro to pursue other targets. Talks with Devin Haney never went further after Paro claimed the American priced himself out of a fight. Paro also knows that a win over Hitchins sets up a possible fight with fellow Australian George Kambosos Jr. next year.
Hitchins has many detractors following his last performance. He arrives into the fight with a win over Gustavo Lemos. It was a unanimous decision win, but not his finest performance. Paro questioned Hitchins’ heart, saying he feels the fighter could quit. He also urged Hitchins to meet him in the centre of the ring to show that he has the X-factor, which he claims. Paro weighed 139.6 pounds, while Hitchins hit the scales at 139.8 pounds.
Reaction
“It is crunch time now, the talking is done. I see a scared fellow. I said that right from the start. We are one sleep away from seeing what he is all about,” Paro said
“Like I said, I belong at the world level. My talent doesn’t belong anywhere else. If I was fighting different competition, it would be like bullying. I am supposed to be fighting the best guys in the world,” Hitchens stated
“I just think it’s one of those fights that we want. Everybody is debating. No one knows [who is going to win]. That’s the reality. It’s a true 50-50 fight. The confidence Liam I’ll take from the Subriel Matias victory. The skills that Richardson Hitchins has. He believes this is his moment. It’s anybody’s fight, and that’s what we want. It’s a flip of a coin and may the best man win.
The winner of this fight goes onto some massive things in this division. There are some huge fights out there for both guys. It’s all or nothing tomorrow night. Richardson Hitchins is from that same mould as Shakur, as Devin, as Tank. He’s a former Olympian. He’s looking to become his own superstar of American boxing as well,” Hearn revealed
