Paddy Pimblett Wants To Box Jake Paul – ‘It’s All About Money’
Paddy Pimblett has set his sights on fighting Jake Paul in a boxing fight.
Pimblett’s UFC contract expires after his next fight when he takes on Bobby Green at UFC 304 on July 27. This is his biggest test, as he will face a ranked contender. Paddy is 5-0 and is coming off a win against Tony Ferguson at UFC 296. But since Ferguson had lost six on the spin before the fight, Pimblett was expected to win. Just as his stock is building with better opposition, Paddy appears keen on exploring his free agency. He does have the social media following to do that. A boxing fight with Jake Paul would earn him much more than what he could get in the UFC.
Pimblett vs. Paul
“If Jake Paul sends a contract over for a couple of million dollars, lad, and wants to fight me, let’s do it… We’re prize fighters at the end of the day. That’s what people forget. We’re prize fighters, we do this to get paid. It’s all about money.
“Give Jake Paul his dues for that one. I didn’t think he’d fight someone like Mike Perry. He’s fought a load of…clowns. He fought Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley when they were both over 40, and Anderson’s a Thai boxer and Woodley’s a wrestler. But, Mike Perry is a boxer, he’s a striker, he’s got hands. So I’ll be honest, Jake Paul has gained a little bit of respect from me for that,” Pimblett said
Paul has shown he will face MMA fighters if the profile is right. He will box Mike Perry on July 20 after Mike Tyson pulled out. Perry is a massive name, and he has forged a good reputation in BKFC. He is 5-0, making him the face of the promotion. Paul’s other fights have been against MMA royalty, such as Nate Diaz and Anderson Silva. Pimblett’s Instagram following is over 2 million.
Pimblett On The UFC
Meanwhile, he has a significant following on YouTube, making him appear to a casual audience. Those are the hallmark ingredients for making a big PPV event. Despite this, Pimblett still has his ambitions in the UFC. He is targeting a title shot later down the line. But to do that, he needs victories against better-named opposition. But crossing into boxing will not help him do that.
“After I fight Bobby Green, I will fight [Renato] Moicano. Paddy Pimblett answered in the interview, when asked about his path to UFC gold. “Moicano’s ranked ten at the minute, but he’s fighting [Benoit] Saint-Denis isn’t he? So he could win or lose and end up going up or down. But, I would love like, Moicano, and then [Beneil] Darish would be perfect. He’s ranked seven or eight. Then someone in the top five, you know what I mean? Then, I would go for the belt if it’s possible,” Pimblett added
Paul has said he wants to make his MMA debut under the PFL. Provided that Pimblett is a free agent, he could sign a deal to make that fight. But since Paddy is entering his prime, it would be a massive risk for Jake to take that fight.
