Paddy Pimblett has broken his silence regarding his health after his loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 324 on January 24.

Pimblett revealed he has a scratched cornea but dismissed more serious concerns about his face. Post-fight photos showed his face heavily swollen and bruised. Despite the damage, Pimblett reassured fans that it is a lingering eye injury. The injury appears to come from the second round after a thumb to the right eye from Gaethje.

Despite the medical setback, Pimblett’s recovery appears to be ahead of schedule. The ‘Baddy’ revealed he has already returned to light training in the gym. With the Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje potentially targeted for the summer, Pimblett is eyeing a return on the same timeline. Paddy could take a fight against the likes of Dan Hooker or a bout on the UFC White House card in June.

Pimblett Reacts

“Everyone thought my face was a mess. Listen, I’m only a week out from the fight. My face is sound. I’ve got a little bit of bruising. The only thing what’s wrong with me is my eyeballs. The one thing that has made me laugh, though, I did say before the fight, ‘I’m gonna make his face look different.’ And for a couple of days, he made my face look different.

“As you can see now, it’s a week later. There’s nothing wrong with me. The only thing what’s up with me is like, [I’ve] probably got a scratched cornea or something like that. I’ll be back in the gym tomorrow. I’ll be back training. And people think I’m going to have to take the rest of the year off. I’m not. I’ll be fighting in the summer,” Pimblett said

What’s Next?

Pimblett reacted to Hooker’s loss to Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 325. The latter stopped Hooker in the second round, which was the second consecutive defeat after getting submitted by Arman Tsarukyan last year. Pimblett did hold back on Hooker’s loss, while also crediting Benoit Saint-Denis.

“Nice to see Dan get TKO’d after the shit he was chatting. He probably enjoyed me losing last week. That was probably a generational hate watch for him. I never got finished, though. I really like Benoit Saint Denis. I think he’s a proper nice fella and I like his fighting style. He comes to bang, proper like Saint Denis. I hope he does well, but obviously if he’s next for me he’s getting finished,” Pimblett stated
