Pacquiao Nominated For The Boxing International Hall Of Fame

Manny Pacquiao is part of a shortlist for next year’s nominations for the Boxing International Hall of Fame.

The ceremony takes place from Canastota from the Turning Stone Casino in New York from June 5-8. Pacquiao is one of the greatest fighters to have ever lived after having won titles in eight weight classes. He has had some memorable fights in his career, including the Juan Manuel Marquez four fights, the Erik Morales trilogy, and his eventual fight with Floyd Mayweather in 2015. While he secured wins against Marquez and Morales, he ultimately came up short in the biggest fight of his career.

Manny’s Legacy

Mayweather won a one-sided unanimous decision. But that did not prevent Pacquiao from creating history. He became the oldest welterweight champion at 40 years of age when he defeated Keith Thurman for the WBA Welterweight Title in 2019. He retired in 2021 after having suffered a loss to Yordenis Ugas. Since then, he has had two exhibition fights. He faced DK Yoo and beat him via a unanimous decision.

Meanwhile, Manny had an exhibition against Rukiya Anpo this year. While it was not an official result, he was outboxed for those three rounds. He was linked with the return against the WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios. However, that never materialized, as Barrios will now face Abel Ramos on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card on November 15. Pacquiao recently attended the Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois fight in the UK. Reports indicated he was looking for a fight in England with Amir Khan and Conor Benn mentioned as potential opponents.

Other Legends

The other names mentioned in the International Boxing Hall of Fame are Mikey Garcia, Shawn Porter, and Lucian Bute. Garcia retired with a 40-2 record after having worked himself up through the ranks with the help of his brother/trainer Robert Garcia. He won titles at featherweight, super featherweight, lightweight, and junior welterweight. He had big victories against Adrien Broner, Robert Easter Jr. and Juan Manuel Lopez.

However, Garcia came up short when he jumped up to weight classes to face Errol Spence Jr. at 147. He was never the same fighter, and he eventually retired after losing to Sandor Martin. Porter, meanwhile, was a two-time welterweight champion. He beat Devon Alexander for the IBF title in 2013 and then became a champion again, beating Danny Garcia in 2018 for the WBC belt.

Porter retired after losing to Terence Crawford and also came up short against Errol Spence Jr., But he did secure big victories against Paul Malignaggi, Andre Berto, and Ugas, to name a few. As for Bute, he was the IBF Super Middleweight Champion from 2007 to 2012. He won the vacant belt after stopping Alejandro Berrio. He made nine successful defenses of the title. [And] he came up short when he boxed Carl Froch. But he did have a glittering career, retiring with a record of 32-5.
