Pacquiao Jr. May Fight On A Card Headlined By His Father

Manny Pacquiao Jr. could end up fighting on a potential card headlined by his father, Manny Pacquiao.
Pacquiao is being linked with a fight against the WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios. Pacman has not boxed professionally since his 2021 defeat to Yordenis Ugas. Since his retirement, he has had exhibitions against DK Yoo and Rukiya Anpo. Pacquiao won eight world titles and holds the record for being the oldest welterweight champion at 40 when he beat Keith Thurman. While he has achieved everything in the sport, a win over Barrios would break that record as he would be 46.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao Jr. is hoping to replicate some of the success of his father. His early career has shown that he is an offensive fighter like his father. The physique also strongly emphasises generating power through the calves and legs. Marvin Somodo, who is Pacquiao Jr.’s trainer, says his fighter plans on becoming professional soon. Now, he could make an appearance on his father’s card if things play out the right way.
Pacquiao Jr.’s Future
“Manny Jr. is just training every day just like my other professional fighters. We are hoping to get him a fight soon, but the main thing is improving him at the gym every day. Turning pro in the future is the plan for him, and once I see that he is ready. The plan is for him to become a professional boxer, but you never know. He is doing really well. His work ethic is really good. You see him every day in the gym and never complain. We spar with world-class fighters, and he does well. His future depends on his performance when he turns pro. I believe he will do well, but only time will tell,” Somodo said
“We’ll see. He’s always active. He’s always in shape. Like he’s always running, playing basketball, playing four games, five games at a time, he’s in shape all the time. We’ll see, yeah. I’ll be ready,” Pacquiao Jr. stated
When Will It Happen?
If those plans play out, then Pacquiao Jr. could make his debut next summer. Pacquiao Sr. is currently campaigning for office, keeping him occupied until May. Barrios’ team have indicated that they are still interested in that fight. It will be by far Barrios’ biggest payday. Based on Manny’s last performance against Anpo, he will fancy his chances. Pacquiao was outboxed for the three rounds, looking like Father Time had caught up with him.
But even if that is the case, Pacquiao Jr. could carry that mantle. There will naturally be comparisons made between him and his father. Tyson Fury has managed to outdo his father John Fury’s career by becoming a unified heavyweight champion. But Campbell Hatton has failed to achieve anything like his father Ricky Hatton did as he became a two-weight world champion. Campbell has a 14-2 record, losing his last two fights. While he could still target a British title, a world title seems a long way off.
