O’Shaquie Foster Plans Lightweight Move After Conceicao Win

O’Shaquie Foster is eyeing a future move up to lightweight following his recent victory over Robson Conceicao.

Foster won a split decision to regain his WBC Super Featherweight Title and avenged the first defeat against his opponent. The victory meant that Foster became a two-time Super Featherweight Champion. It was a perfect response after the controversial defeat in the first fight where most boxing fans felt Foster had done enough to win. The ComPubox numbers had shown that he had outlanded Robson throughout the first fight. This time around, Foster made no mistakes as he finished the fight strongly through the championship rounds to take the win on the scorecards: 115-113, 113-115 and 115-113.

Foster’s Options

Conceicao indicated his desire to have a rematch and set up a trilogy. Meanwhile, Foster appears to have his eyes elsewhere. He is now targeting the big fights at 130 pounds, with several unifications on his mind. One opportunity is to face Emanuel Navarrete, who is the WBO Champion. Navarrete secured a draw against Conceicao, as Foster will fancy his chances of coming out on top. There is also a fight against Lamont Roach Jr., who is the WBA Champion. He is in line to face Gervonta Davis at 135 pounds in his next fight. That leaves Forster in an intriguing position.

If Roach beats Davis, he would have to decide whether he wants to defend his title at 135 pounds since the boxing rules prevent fighters from holding the same title in two weight classes simultaneously. That could present an opportunity for the belt to become vacant, allowing Forster to target it. The other option is that Roach could lose against Davis, which he is expected to do, since Tank is the heavy favorite. That would then see Roach come back down to 130 pounds after a defeat, which makes him more vulnerable, giving Foster a better chance of winning.

Foster At 135

There is also the opportunity To face the IBF Champion at 130, Anthony Cacace. His record stands at 23-1. He only has eight knockouts to his name. His last fight was a win against Josh Warrington for the IBO Super Featherweight Belt. His last defeat was against Martin J Ward all the way back in 2017.

If Foster comes through those fights, then he will target a move up 135 pounds. The big names at 135 are Gervonta Davis, who holds the WBA belt, and Shakur Stevenson, who holds the WBC belt. There is also Vasiliy Lomachenko, who has the IBF Belt. That sets up the narrative for plenty of big fights. That gives him plenty of opportunities to move forward.

“If we can get it within 2025 or early 2026. I’m really not trying to be at 130 for too long. I’m trying to unify and go as undisputed if I can. If I can’t, I’m trying to search for bigger fights at 135. It really wouldn’t matter to me. I’m not the type that picks and chooses styles. I feel like I can adjust to anybody,” Foster said
