Oscar De La Hoya Sues Ryan Garcia After The Latter Alleges Contract Violations

Oscar De La Hoya has taken legal action against Ryan Garcia after the latter alleged that his contract had been breached.
According to reports, Garcia sent a letter to Golden Boy Promotions on the basis of some apparent violations that no longer made the contract enforceable.
That did not go down well with the promotional company, who have now decided to respond.
“Golden Boy has been proud to have worked with Ryan Garcia for the last several years and to help catapult him to the kind of stardom that led to the biggest boxing Pay Per View event in years just two months ago,’ the promotion said Friday to ESPN.
“With this filing, we are seeking to ensure that Ryan and his team will honor the remainder of his contract, a contract that Ryan himself called ‘one of the most lucrative boxing deals for a prospect in the history of the sport.’
“Since then, Ryan has moved on to becoming a legitimate contender, and we will continue to present Ryan with the best possible opponents that can eventually lead the way to a world championship and a historic legacy,” Golden Boy
Garcia signed with the promotional outfit all the way back in 2016, but it appears the relationship has turned sour in more ways than one.
The boxer alleges that his contract allowed him to fight on any network on pay-per-view.

But when it came to fighting Gervonta Davis, Garcia had reportedly been told that it must be broadcast on DAZN because of a separate agreement Golden Boy had signed.
And those moves have now caused Garcia’s legal team to speak out.
“Golden Boy is obligated to promote and enhance Ryan Garcia, not malign him on Twitter and file a public, baseless lawsuit against him.
“Ironically, the lawsuit itself constitutes a breach of the very agreement Golden Boy is seeking to enforce. It is obvious retaliation to a letter detailing multiple asserted breaches of contract by Golden Boy,” Bo Pearl (Garcia’s attorney).
Aside from those claims, relations between Garcia and De La Hoya have been strained. The latter was absent during Garcia’s defeat to Davis at the post-fight press conference.
While De La Hoya claimed that his absence was due to death threats, it did not help Garcia’s cause to face the media alone.
Not only that, but the pair have fired shots at each other on social media when De La Hoya talked up the chance of Garcia fighting Manny Pacquiao.
In response, Garcia made it clear in no uncertain terms that he did not want the fight. Instead, the star was targeting Isaac Cruz, Teofimo Lopez, or Rolando Romero.
“It’s a very real option for both guys because imagine Ryan Garcia – Manny Pacquiao fight at a catchweight, can be the biggest fight for both guys.
“Manny’s a small guy to start off with. All his weight is in his calves. He’s got big calves, strong calves, but yeah, I can see that fight happening at 142, 143, maybe.
“Rolly’s a fun fighter to watch. Him and Ryan would be a very entertaining fight, but the biggest fight out there for Ryan would be a Manny Pacquiao,” De La Hoya
“Weren’t you just promoting the fake Pac fight that I already told you I’m not accepting? You really think I’mma fall for that bull twice,” Garcia
The next steps are vital for De La Hoya and Garcia. And the sooner it is resolved, then the better it is for everyone involved.
