Ngannou Willing To Fight In MMA And Boxing, Ngannou Will Be Ranked In WBC’s Top Ten

In the latest boxing news, Francis Ngannou has revealed that he still plans on fighting in MMA despite his recent boxing bout with Tyson Fury.
The MMA fighter gave a good account of himself, despite coming out second best to Fury in a split-decision loss: 94-95, 96-93, 95-94. In the aftermath, a certain subset of the boxing community felt Ngannou had been deprived of the win.
This was on the basis that he had landed the heavier shots, which was characterised by knocking Fury down in round three. The performance, therefore, raised question marks over where Ngannou’s future lies.
As of now, the former UFC heavyweight champion is expected to make his PFL debut in 2024. While that may be the case, Ngannou was open to boxing again, indicating his intention to fight in both formats if possible.
Ngannou On His Future
“Combination. I can do both. Nothing is stopping me from doing both. If I have the skill for both of them, why not? As for right now, I have a deal with PFL and I’m intending to fight MMA again. I love it. I’m more comfortable. I still love it. I might do some MMA fights, but I’m still going to do boxing. I never intended to just step over and do one fight and just go out. That wasn’t the plan at all, never. The plan is still the same.
“I’m going to fight sometime in February or March. Maybe in the cage or in the ring, but I’m going to fight. I already basically have both, and we are working on what’s going to work better…This is really my first time to fight and to do 10-round boxing match, straight boxing.
“I told myself that I didn’t do bad against the No. 1 heavyweight in the world, so I’ve just to go back and focus on that, and use that experience to work on it and get prepared for the next time. I think this just gets me even more excited and hungry to prove. I was wounded, but I realize I can bite,” Ngannou said
Ngannou’s Top Ten Ranking
And by the looks of it, Ngannou’s prospects have been boosted massively with the news that he will be ranked inside the top ten of the WBC with that performance.
That is according to Ngannou’s trainer, Dewey Cooper. The latter indicated that the WBC President, Mauricio Sulaiman, had made the promise following that performance.
Such a move will be vital for Ngannou’s boxing aspirations, as it may open up the doors for further big fights down the line.
And given that Ngannou had been recompensed so handsomely for the Fury fight, bigger paydays will no doubt follow.
With that being said, this is what Cooper had to say: “Mauricio Sulaiman, the president of the WBC, said he’s going to rank him in the top 10 because he’s better than most of the heavyweights in the top 10. He said that in the ring,” Cooper stated
Ngannou clearly has plenty of options moving forward, which is why further big fights in boxing and MMA could follow soon. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
