Ngannou Vs. Chisora Has Been Talked About – Says Eddie Hearn

According to Eddie Hearn, talks for a fight between Derek Chisora and Francis Ngannou on a potential Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder undercard have taken place.
Ngannou, who recently signed a deal with the PFL, is keen on making his boxing debut in 2023 before making his debut with the Professional Fighters League in 2024.
The deal was significant as it gave Ngannou more options since leaving the UFC. He was linked with various organizations, including ONE Championship and Bellator.
However, with his recent multi-fight deal signing with the Professional Fighters League, Ngannou has joined the PFL’s super-fight division and will serve as the chairman of PFL Africa, as well as on the PFL advisory board to represent the interests of athletes.
“I believe in the PFL’s ‘fighter first’ culture and global vision, including developing the sport in Africa. With that, I am also proud to announce that I will serve as Chairman of PFL Africa which will be the leading MMA organisation on the continent providing great African fighters the opportunity to compete on a global platform.
“Let’s just say, all-in my deal with PFL is more than anyone else offered. That’s what I’m hoping to have, the boxing fight before I fight in the PFL. That’s also one of the reasons why 2024 is the best fit,” Ngannou
Not only that, but the ex-UFC heavyweight champion has openly expressed his wish to fight Joshua, Tyson Fury, and Wilder.
However, the lack of interest from these top heavyweights has led to the possibility of Ngannou taking on Chisora.
This could backfire on Ngnannou as history has shown that MMA stars have not been the same following a boxing bout.
Take, for example, Conor McGregor. Following his defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2017, he has not been the same.
Three defeats out of his last four fights have stained what has otherwise been a stellar career.
However, when it comes to Chisora, there is very little risk. The move will benefit Chisora, who is entering the tail-end of his career.
Since his defeat to Fury last year, the calls on him to retire from the sport only grew. The comprehensive manner in which Chisora was pummeled before the stoppage in the ninth round raised concerns over his condition moving forward.
Having fought all of the big names, Chisora has come up short at the world level. As such, there is little for Chisora to prove.
However, the prospect of a lucrative offer from Saudi could be the best way to sign off. And by the looks of it, Hearn suspects there could be one more fight for Chisora.
“There are rumors for a third fight for that night in December which could be Ngannou vs Chisora. I actually quite like that fight because I don’t see Francis being competitive against Tyson or ‘AJ’ but more competitive against Chisora,” Hearn stated
Nevertheless, there are still some hurdles to overcome before the fight can happen. If Joshua and Wilder do not agree on terms, then the chances of this fight happening are non-existent.
In addition, there is also the possibility that Joshua or Wilder could lose their next fight if it is expected that they have a tune-up.
After all, Joshua has only trained with Derrick James for one fight against Jermaine Franklin. And it was quite clear that the Brit was not the explosive fighter that the boxing fans had been used to.
Meanwhile, Wilder has been out of the ring since his first-round knockout win over Robert Halenius.
And on top of that, who could forget his brutal third fight with Fury, which did dent the American’s confidence following the 11th-round stoppage.
With that being said, a Chisora-Ngannou fight is still a long way away. You can stay up-to-date with the latest happenings in the world of boxing by visiting boxingblitz right here.
