Ngannou Still Hopes To Face Wilder - 'Wilder Better Get It Together'

Francis Ngannou wants Deontay Wilder to get back to his best, hoping to face him in a boxing match.

Wilder’s loss to Joseph Parker prevented the Anthony Joshua fight in a major blow for the Bronze Bomber since both fighters had signed for the fight. The defeat left Wilder with serious questions over his future. A world title shot is out of reach, while the manner of the defeat suggests he is no longer the same fighter.

The trilogy with Tyson Fury, which included two knockout losses, may have taken its toll on Wilder. Before the Parker loss, Wilder and Ngannou were in talks over a two-fight deal. One bout would be in boxing, while the other would be in a mixed-rules format. The fight never got made, but Ngannou still aspires to face Wilder, provided he comes back stronger.

Ngannou On Wilder

“I’m here for the boxing career and there I have a lot of challenges, a lot of names. For example, the top three guys that I’ve always had are Fury, Joshua, Wilder. Wilder better get it together because I’m not done, I want that name on my record. Two months ago, we were talking about fighting Deontay Wilder in the PFL (Professional Fighters League). The landscape can change quick. Everything is possible,” Ngannou stated

Before Ngannou targets Wilder, he has a big opportunity to face Anthony Joshua. They face off on March 8, 2024, for Ngannou’s second boxing fight. His performance against Fury earned him the Joshua bout, as he pushed the WBC Heavyweight Champion all the way.

He dropped Fury to the canvas in the third round. Although he lost a split decision, the performance earned him a top-ten WBC ranking. A win over Joshua, therefore, secures him a shot at the Undisputed Heavyweight Championship and potential rematches with Fury, Joshua and a potential Wilder fight.

“You will see the result of this match will connect about the result of the 17 February – this is our idea. For the winner, the big fight’s happening on February 17, with Tyson and Usyk.” “The winner of that – would we like to see them with the winner of this fight? Everybody in boxing would love to see that. So everybody has got something to aim for. It’s huge a moment of excitement for boxing,” Turki Alalshikh revealed

That is why he has warned Joshua to be wary.

“If I catch him then he’s going to sleep. Remember this is the heavyweight division and everyone is quite strong so you should keep your chin away. If you put your chin in the right position and get hit – even by the lightest fighter – then you might wake up in the white room. So, you better keep your chin away and fight smart,” Ngannou stated

Ngannou faces a crucial March as the outcome of the Joshua fight could decide his boxing career. With doubts over his MMA future, the onus is on Ngannou to perform. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on
