Wilder Signs Up For American Reality Show, Will He Retire?

In heavyweight boxing news, Deontay Wilder’s future in the sport could be in doubt following his decision to sign up for an American reality show.
The ‘Bronze Bomber’ has not fought since his first-round knockout of Robert Helenius around a year ago. Thereafter, fights with Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua have failed to materialize.
Wilder had been in discussions to face Ruiz for what would have been a WBC title eliminator. However, the two camps could not agree on terms. Wilder’s side had offered a 70-30 split, while the Mexican demanded an equal split.
This was to reflect the fact that both fighters were former world champions, who no longer had a belt. Meanwhile, a fight with Joshua did crop up.
Reports indicated that Saudi Arabia was keen on holding a four-man heavyweight tournament that would have included Oleksandr Usyk against Tyson Fury, with Wilder and Joshua making up the rest of the event.
Hearn On AJ-Wilder
And yet, Eddie Hearn has confirmed that the fight could occur outside of Saudi, thus putting an end to any chance of that fight happening in the region.
"Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua both agreed to the fight in terms of the money and everything. At the moment, until we receive a contract to do that fight it’s not happening. Does that come this week? Does that come in two months? Does that come at all? I don’t know. We’re a little bit in limbo. We’re working with people we’re working with before and when they tell us it’s done, generally it’s done. On this occasion it’s not yet done. My instruction is to explore alternatives venues while we wait to hear what’s happening in Saudia Arabia for A.J against Wilder," Hearn stated
Wilder’s Next Move
With that being said, Wilder’s has now signed up for the second season of the show ‘The Traitors.’ The show is based on numerous celebrities who join the show and play a game similar to that of Mafia.
In doing so, they must banish the ‘Traitors’ and win a prize. And as Wilder is almost 38, is he entering the final chapter in his career?
Well, according to the boxer, there is still a desire on him to make the biggest fights out there. The Bronze Bomber expanded on how he was targeting more huge fights in the future during the next three years.
And yet, the boxer stopped short of naming the actual people he was considering. But if fans were to speculate, the only big fights out there would be AJ, Usyk and perhaps a mega crossover fight with a UFC fighter. As such, this is what Wilder had to say.
"I’m going to bless the world my last three years with some of the best fights they ever seen, the people they want as long as they don’t run. It’s questionable whether Wilder’s last three years will be against popular heavyweights because there’s only a small handful of them, and two of them, Usyk & Fury, have no interest in fighting him. If you’re making money and can’t enjoy it, then people think differently," Wilder
