White Announces Three World Title Fights
In the MMA latest updates, Dana White has announced three world title fights that will occur at UFC 295 and UFC 296 respectively in today’s MMA breaking news.
Starting with UFC 295 on November 11th, 2023, Jiri Prochazka will face Alex Pereira for the vacant light heavyweight title on the Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic card.
The belt became vacant when Jamahal Hill gave up the title after suffering from an Achilles back in July. This will be Pereira’s second fight at the weight class following his win over Jan Blachowicz.
This was after he bounced back from his loss to Israel Adesanya at middleweight. Meanwhile, Prochazka is in impressive form having won his last 3 fights.
White On UFC 295
"Former light heavyweight champion Jiri Procházka faces former middleweight champ Alex Pereira for the vacant 205-pound title. Prochazka is one of the most exciting fighters on the roster. He had to vacate the title when he sustained the worst shoulder injury in UFC history, but now he is fully recovered. He’s still undefeated in the UFC and he wants his belt back. Pereira is one of the scariest dudes to every set foot in the octagon. He won the middleweight title just one year after making his UFC debut. Now he’s moved up to the light heavyweight with his sights set on another wold title in a new weight class. That is going to be an awesome fight," White said
Elsewhere, Leon Edwards is set to defend his welterweight title for the second time on December 16th, 2023, at UFC 296 against Colby Covington.
Edwards’ last fight was against Kamaru Usman in what was his first defense of the title. Edwards emerged victorious in that trilogy fight. In contrast, Covington has not fought for almost two years since he beat Jorge Masvidal in his last fight.
White On UFC 296
"At UFC 296 on Dec. 16 in Las Vegas, Leon Edwards versus Colby Covington will headline our last pay-per-view of the year with the welterweight title on the line. The champ hasn’t lost a fight in eight years and he’s coming off wins over the greatest welterweight of all time, Kamaru Usman. He is defending his title against Colby Covington, a relentless pressure fighter with unstoppable cardio," White
Meanwhile, White also confirmed the co-main event for the UFC 296 which will see Alexandre Pantoja defend his flyweight title for the first time against Brandon Royval in their rematch. The pair first fought each other in 2021 when Pantoja won via a second-round-submission win.
White’s Last Announcement
"In the co-main event for UFC 296, UFC Flyweight Champion Alexandre Pantoja faces No. 4 Brandon Royval. Pantoja is an absolute savage with 18 career finishes, coming off his second win over Brandon Moreno. He is primed for his first flyweight title defense. Royval’s only UFC losses are against the division’s last two champs, Pantoja and Moreno. He’s put together an impressive win streak to earn the rematch with Pantoja with the 125-pound title on the line." White
