What's Next For Jarrell Miller?
Following his victory over Lenier Pero, Jarrell Miller has revitalized his career in the heavyweight division, as we look at what is next.
By ending Pero’s unbeaten run in a WBA title eliminator, Miller has opened the door for bigger fights. A domestic clash with former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is an option. Following the win over Pero, Eddie Hearn called for a showdown with “The Bronze Bomber.” Wilder is coming off his own recent success, a victory over Derek Chisora.
“For me, the American fight is Deontay Wilder against Jarrell Miller. Run it in New York. That’s a serious fight. Deontay’s come back with a good win against Chisora, I think that’s a big fight for American boxing,” Hearn
By winning the WBA Eliminator, Miller has positioned himself closer to facing Oleksandr Usyk, who currently holds the WBA, WBC, and IBF titles. While Usyk is currently occupied with a bout against kickboxer Rico Verhoeven, Miller’s victory over the #2 ranked Pero leapfrogs him into a prime position within the WBA rankings.
If a fight with Wilder fails to materialize and the wait for Usyk proves too long, Miller’s association with Matchroom Boxing opens doors to Anthony Joshua. The history between Miller and Joshua remains one of boxing’s great “what ifs” following their cancelled 2019 bout after Miller failed VADA tests.
Miller could also box on the undercard of the Xander Zayas vs. Jaron Ennis event in Brooklyn this June. A quick turnaround against someone like Zhilei Zhang or a rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr. (following their 2024 draw) would keep his momentum high while the title picture clears up.
