Valter Walker warns UFC heavyweights after calf slicer finish

Tom Rashid
UFC & MMA Lead Writer ·

Valter Walker put the UFC heavyweight division on notice after forcing Thomas Petersen to tap with a calf slicer in the first round at UFC Abu Dhabi.

The Brazilian submission artist, nicknamed "The Foot Hunter," secured only the fourth successful calf slicer in Octagon history, per Sherdog. Walker extended his finish streak to five consecutive first-round submissions, all targeting the legs. He entered the bout with four straight heel hook victories and adapted on the fly when Petersen defended the attack.

Walker promises more leg-based surprises for UFC heavyweights

"If you're ready for the heel hook, I have a variation to find a way to win the fight," Walker said after the finish. "If the fight is on the ground, be careful. I will surprise you every time."

Walker, now 16-1, owns six submission victories alongside six knockouts. The 30-year-old said he plans to take a brief holiday with his wife before returning in October, targeting UFC 333 at the same Etihad Arena venue in Abu Dhabi.

He told UFC News he will consult with his manager to identify the next opponent willing to test his grappling.
