UFC releases lightweight Thiago Moises after 16-fight run
The UFC has parted ways with lightweight Thiago Moises, who exits after 16 fights under the promotion's banner, according to MMA Fighting.
Moises last fought in April at UFC Winnipeg, dropping a split decision to Gauge Young. The 31-year-old Brazilian finishes his octagon tenure with an 8-8 record and a professional mark of 19-10.
Moises leaves legacy of tough matchups, rare Makhachev takedown
A Dana White's Contender Series graduate from 2018, Moises won half his UFC victories by stoppage — including submission wins over King Green, Christos Giagos and Melquizael Costa. He also faced multiple fighters who climbed the ranks after beating him, most notably Islam Makhachev, who went on to capture titles at lightweight and welterweight.
Moises and Arman Tsarukyan remain the only fighters to record takedowns against Makhachev inside the octagon, per the report. The former RFA lightweight champion brought a grappling threat that troubled some of the division's best even as his record hovered near .500.
While Moises is no longer under contract, MMA Fighting notes the promotion could choose to bring him back at a later date.
