Tom Aspinall injury scrapped White House super-fight with Pereira
Tom Aspinall was slated to face Alex Pereira at the UFC White House card before an injury forced him out, according to UFC president Dana White.
White confirmed the matchup would have happened at UFC Freedom 250 had Aspinall been healthy, per Sherdog. The bout would have been a rare heavyweight appearance for Pereira, the promotion's light heavyweight champion, and positioned Aspinall for a potential shot at reclaiming the undisputed heavyweight title he surrendered after tearing his ACL in 2022.
What the scrapped Aspinall-Pereira fight means for heavyweight picture
Aspinall has held the interim heavyweight strap since November 2023 but has not fought for unification because Jon Jones remains sidelined. Pereira has campaigned at 205 pounds since moving up from middleweight in late 2022, though he has repeatedly teased a heavyweight debut.
The UFC Freedom 250 card at the White House on Sunday features Ilia Topuria defending the featherweight title against Justin Gaethje in the main event. Aspinall's timeline for return has not been disclosed.
