Thomas Gerbasi Named to UFC Hall of Fame Class of 2026

Tom Rashid
UFC & MMA Lead Writer ·

Thomas Gerbasi, who spent nearly two decades as UFC's editorial director and head writer, will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame as a Contributor during the 2026 ceremony scheduled for July 9 at International Fight Week, the promotion announced.

Gerbasi authored thousands of fighter profiles and features for UFC.com and the official UFC magazine, documenting the sport's growth from the early 2000s onward. He also penned definitive company histories including UFC: A Visual History and The UFC Encyclopedia. His mandate, according to UFC, was to tell stories that only an insider could tell, and he applied that standard equally to prelim debutants and established champions.

Boxing Roots and Cross-Combat Credibility

Before joining UFC, the New Yorker established himself covering boxing for outlets such as MaxBoxing.com and The Ring Magazine. He received the Nat Fleischer Award for boxing journalism from the Boxing Writers Association of America in 2024 and was inducted into the International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame in 2022. His final book, Boxing: The 100 Greatest Fighters, came out in September 2025.

"Tom was a close member of the UFC family and a very talented writer," UFC President Dana White said in the announcement, per the promotion's official statement. "If you've ever read anything at all on UFC.com, the UFC print magazine, or any number of official books on UFC, you've read the writing of Thomas Gerbasi."

Gerbasi maintained detailed biographies for every fighter on the roster and became the internal authority on company history. His work extended beyond editorial into departments handling public relations, broadcast production, and creative copy whenever credible fight content was required.

The induction ceremony will take place as part of the 14th annual UFC International Fight Week in Las Vegas.
