Sam Alvey retained his Karate Combat heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight title with a bloody unanimous decision over Uriah Hall at KC 62 in Miami on Friday night.

Alvey entered the bout as the 205-pound champion despite losing his most recent fight, a heavyweight title attempt against Robelis Despaigne, per MMA Mania. Hall arrived with a 2-0 Karate Combat record, including a spinning back kick stoppage of Jayden Eynaud.

Alvey's pressure overwhelms Hall over five rounds

Hall landed clean early, connecting with spinning attacks and hard shots in the opening frame. Alvey ducked under a jab in round two to secure a takedown and battered Hall from top position, sapping his gas tank. On the feet, Alvey's jab and calf kicks took over.

Hall surged in the fourth, landing right hands and a high kick that sent Alvey back to his corner bleeding heavily. But Alvey pushed forward in the fifth, earning another period of top control where Hall absorbed serious damage. Hall survived to the bell, but Alvey was throwing shots and pressing his advantage as time expired.

MMA Mania described Alvey as a career overachiever whose persistence got the job done again. Hall was the cleaner striker, but Alvey's size and relentless pace wore him down over 25 minutes.

No word yet on Alvey's next title defense or whether Hall will get an immediate rematch.
