Ryan Garner beats Michael Magnesi for interim WBC title
Ryan Garner claimed the interim WBC featherweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super featherweight title with a win over Michael Magnesi at St Mary's Stadium in Southampton on Saturday.
Garner, who entered the bout unbeaten at 19-0 with 10 knockouts, added another belt to his collection of European, British, and Commonwealth honors at 130 pounds. Italy's Magnesi, the underdog fighting on the road, fell to 26-3 after entering with 13 stoppage wins across 28 career appearances.
What Garner's interim title means for world title shot
The victory positions the Englishman for a mandatory challenge at a full WBC world title, per Bad Left Hook's coverage of the bout. Garner had already swept the regional honors available in his weight class before Saturday's Southampton clash at the home of the Premier League football club.
Magnesi was looking to take the same step toward a legitimate world championship opportunity but could not overcome Garner on hostile turf. The Southampton card, which streamed live on DAZN, also featured heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight action between Lewis Edmondson and Lyndon Arthur.
Garner's next move will likely hinge on the WBC's timeline for ordering a full title eliminator or direct challenge. No date has been announced for his return to the ring.
