Katie Taylor eyes Croke Park as perfect career finale

Katie Taylor has said a fight at Croke Park could mark the end of her professional career. The Irish champion told BBC Sport she views a bout at the Dublin venue as the ideal way to finish her time in the ring.

“This seems like the perfect way to end it [my career] – by becoming undisputed champion again in our national stadium which has such a special place in Irish hearts”

— Katie Taylor, via BBC Sport

What Katie Taylor said

Taylor became undisputed lightweight champion in 2019 and held all four belts at super-lightweight in 2023. Croke Park, the headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association, is Ireland's largest stadium and hosted major boxing events in decades past. A Taylor homecoming fight has been discussed for years but has yet to materialise.

What it moves

Any Croke Park bout would need sanctioning approval and opponent confirmation. Taylor has not named a date or rival. The statement suggests she views retirement as near, though she stopped short of calling a potential Irish event her final bout. The GAA would need to approve a boxing licence for the venue.
