Conor Benn tells Ryan Garcia 'that belt is mine'
Conor Benn has put Ryan Garcia on notice over the WBC welterweight title. The British fighter says he will take the belt from Garcia and fulfill a childhood dream.
“The goal is for me to get the WBC world title. It's a belt I've dreamed of achieving since I was a kid. It's the belt my dad won. That belt is mine, and Ryan, I'm taking it, and there's nothing you can do about it.”

What Conor Benn said
Benn is targeting a welterweight world title shot after spending two years out of the ring due to adverse findings in voluntary anti-doping tests. His father, Nigel Benn, held the WBC middleweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super-middleweight title in the 1990s. Garcia currently campaigns at welterweight after moving up from lightweight.
What it moves
The call-out sets up a potential crossover bout between two fighters with large social media followings. Garcia has yet to respond publicly to Benn's challenge. The WBC has not commented on mandatory positions or a title eliminator involving either man.
