Conor Benn calls for Ryan Garcia to sign WBC welterweight contract
Conor Benn has challenged Ryan Garcia to finalise a deal for the WBC welterweight title. The Briton says he wants the belt his father Nigel won and believes Garcia is holding up the fight.
“I've made no secret [I want to] fight for the WBC world title. It's the belt my dad won, and it'd be a dream for me to get that belt. The person's doing a lot of talking, as he does. Hopefully, he signs the contract.”

What Conor Benn said
Benn campaigns at welterweight while Garcia has boxed primarily at lightweight and light-welterweight. The WBC currently holds the welterweight championship Nigel Benn captured in the 1990s. Benn has not held a world title and has been seeking clearance to fight for sanctioning honours after a 2022 adverse test derailed his clash with Chris Eubank Jr.
What it moves
Benn's call puts pressure on Garcia to commit or vacate the possibility. Garcia has spoken publicly about potential opponents across multiple weight classes. The WBC will likely need to rule on whether a Benn-Garcia fight would be for its full welterweight strap or an interim designation.
