PFL San Diego medical suspensions hit two fighters with 6 months
Two fighters from Saturday's PFL San Diego card are staring at potential six-month suspensions after sustaining injuries that require medical clearance, according to suspensions handed down Monday by the California State Athletic Commission.
Featherweight Khasat Magomedsharipov, who defeated Joshua Weems, received a 180-day layoff pending clearance for a possible orbital bone fracture. Prelim fighter Ilara Joanne faces the same length suspension for a suspected fracture to her right knee, MMA Fighting reported. Both fighters can return sooner if cleared by a physician.
Main event fighters handed shorter suspensions
Main event winner A.J. McKee was handed a 60-day suspension unless cleared by a physician for a laceration to his left eye. His opponent Salamat Isbulaev received the same 60-day term for a similar laceration, plus a mandatory 45-day suspension with 30 days no contact for what the commission classified as a hard bout.
The only indefinite suspension went to Abraham Bably, who must undergo an MRI and CT scan before he can compete again. The main card opener also received a mandatory 45-day suspension with 30 days no contact following his TKO loss.
Joanne faces additional restrictions beyond her knee injury, including a 60-day suspension for a laceration to her right eye and a 45-day no-contact period tied to her TKO loss. Most other fighters on the card received standard seven-day mandatory rest periods.
