Overeem Confirms Boxing Return Against Verhoeven
Alistair Overeem is coming out of retirement to settle his rivalry with Rico Verhoeven in the boxing ring.
The 46-year-old former UFC heavyweight has representatives in talks to face the kickboxing champion at Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam, MMA Mania reports. Boxing Media first broke the news of the potential showdown, with Overeem's team confirming the negotiations.
What Overeem's Boxing Plan Means For Verhoeven Rematch
Overeem has not competed in nearly four years and underwent drastic diet changes during his time away from fighting. Verhoeven, meanwhile, came close to upsetting Oleksandr Usyk in Egypt earlier this year and remains one of the top free agents in combat sports.
The two fighters have circled each other for years. They secured a GLORY kickboxing bout in late 2021, but Overeem pulled out with an injury. According to MMA Mania, Overeem is looking to follow the boxing match with bouts in both kickboxing and mixed martial arts.
Verhoeven continues to tease a potential clash with Francis Ngannou under the MVP MMA banner in 2027.
